Nah - dunno want to know more about the show - just wanna watch it - when allowed as annoying Grandkids/OH's son and his OH will probably occupy the TV

 

and anyway there is no point in trying to watch Dr Who with a 5 year old wanting to play 'annoying child' (it is a real game we have) and a 1 year old wanting to play with the remote control

Well I enjoyed it. We didn't exactly get much screen time with Jodie Whittaker, but I'm OK with that. To give us more time with her they'd have had to shorten the main story and I think its length was pretty perfect and it left things nicely resolved. Nice to see Nardole again, and I'm happy that they didn't use timey-wimey-BS to bring Pearl Mackie/Bill back for another episode. I also didn't feel left-out from not having ever seen the original Doctor Who, and kudos to the BBC for keeping in the completely-accepted-in-its-time sexism but downplaying it whenever it came up. That's the right way to address it as far as I'm concerned.

 

Only thing I didn't get was who that WWI soldier was supposed to be. Felt like his name was supposed to have some form of impact but.. Idungeddit...

Without giving away spoilers, I didn't catch his full name but either that soldier or one of his future relatives became a major character in the 70's....

 

Really enjoyed that episode, very well written and as someone old enough to have watched Doctor Who for over 40 years lots of nods to past/present/future events

Great episode. Beautifully written. Wonderfully sad with just the right amount of funny.

I called out the surname of the soldier just before he did (and then had to pause and explain to my poor wife why it was so cool)

A perfect end and a tantalising beginning :-)

There has been some very Marmite reviews for this one, the new who fans (#9 onwards) have complained it was too slow, poor confusing plot and no nasty alien Christmas threat whereas the old who fans loved it with its multiple tie-ins to the pre #9 era.

 

Oh and women driver jokes make you a sexist pig apparently!!

I'm not a Dr Who fan but watched the Christmas episode with my parents.

 

They both enjoyed it because of the links to older series and want it to happen more.

#PeterCapaldi is my 9 year old son’s fav #DoctorWho and he was dreading his regeneration. And then he got this letter with some words of comfort from the Doctor himself among his Santa presents. Such a kind man.
