Evening all...

This year will be my first time going to BETT (after pestering my manager for a few years).

I'm feeling like I might be slightly overwhelmed once I am there, however. I've read through the Tips for BETT threads.

I've thought about the sort of things i'm particularly hoping to look at and a few vendors i'd like to speak to, but I'm not sure what the best thing to do past that is?

I've also found a few seminar things that i'm interested in too.

My colleagues are pestering me to get some cool freebies, what's the best way to go about getting these?

This might seem a bit of a pointless post, but I want to try and make the most of the day, and not really sure what I'm trying to ask here HAHA!

Well, as regards freebies, we run a 'best freebies at BETT thread' on the week, so keep an eye out for that.

Also, we have a couch on our stand (C381 with Smoothwall) just so you have a place to sit when you need to (and you will) and we do free pizza at lunchtime as well around about midday.

Don't be afraid to come and chat to us as we have freebies too :)

1. Visit the Edugeek stand. You will always find a friendly face there.

2. Read up on the stands before your visit and have an idea of which stands you want to visit and why you want to go there.

3. Have questions ready for when you visit your chosen stands. The opportunity comes around once a year. Make the best of it.

4. Relax and enjoy the visit.

1. Visit the edugeek stand - C381 with smoothwall - and there will not only be friendly faces, but also eduhobnobs and somewhere to sit!

2. Read up on the stands - AND the presentations. The latter are also an opportunity to take a seat for a break.

3. And if you don't have anything you specifically are after, plan a route based on things you're interested in and enjoy the walk, collect freebies and discover new ideas :)

Wear comfy shoes and clothing! You'll be on your feet most of the day, take care of them. It's likely that you'll be standing on the tube/DLR as well, so be aware!

As for strategy, I usually go with a handful of vendors in mind, along with an idea of what areas we'll be looking to invest in over the next year, and zig-zag the whole exhibition, just to get at least a glance of every stand, then if something catches my eye I can take a look, get some info and leaflets etc. I don't really bother with the SEN section as I have no clue, and our SEN staff will be doing their own thing.

Oh, and come to the Edugeek stand at smoothwall's booth at about midday :D

I went for the first time last year while it has been at Excel.

I looked through the exhibitors list before hand and made a note of who I wanted to see. I printed out a map in A3 and highlighted the ones I wanted to see and the ones that had freebies :) It made the day much easier and I managed to see everyone.

I found stopping frequently near a bin to be a good idea - initially I ended up with 10 tons of rubbish marketing stuff. Stopping near a bin and sorting it all out helped a lot!

I've normally had a good scout of the place and will be able to tell you where to go for the best freebs. I'll be on the edugeek stand, so will be able to pass on the intel ;)

Is there likely to be a tube / train strike during BETT? I know that it's been in the news, but as it doesn't normally impact us Northern proles I've not paid too much attention.

Dont think so.

This week is the London Boat Show, on the day of the strike the show was quiet.

Thanks all, I have got some ideas of projects that may be coming up in the next year or two and some vendors I want to see. Will keep my eyes peeled for updates as BETT starts!

Still feel like I might be overwhelmed, never been the best at speaking to salespeople!

I've never found BETT to be that good for freebs, the most I get is pens and the occasional stress ball the Misco expo on the other hand companies were throwing really nice stuff at me, I got a couple of UAG mil spec phone cases, a set of bluetooth speakers, A dual phone bluetooth headset as well as all manner of other nice bits.

I think I'll be at BETT this year as long as everything is working smoothly again after having to rebuild my primary DC unexpectedly.

The BETT freebie I have used for years is the Capita car ice scraper I got the last year the show was in Olympia.

It really works well and it was free. Yes, it really was from Capita :D

If you go on Saturday, the were throwing them at me. The downside is you miss out on the Edugeek ones which have been snapped up Wed-Fri.

We always try to make sure we keep some for the Saturday arrivals, but you do need to come to the stand early.

Pop and see us on B412 (we're not far from the EG/Smoothwall stand actually) and We'll be happy to give you a load of freebies. Should have stress balls, travel mugs, pens, sweets etc.

Also it's our 10th Birthday this year so we might be doing something special throughout the week :)

Don't worry, we have plenty of badges this year, and as always, we have a new colour scheme for this year for all you EduGeek badge collectors out there.

In fact we have two new designs, but one will be strictly limited to the first 50 to the stand each day :)

We also have some travel mugs left over from the conf last year to give away and lanyards.

More on this and pics next week

details - and preferably a photo - needed

haha!

Instead of saying hello @witch snuck up behind me and slapped my bottom hard enough that i jumped a fair distance into the air. I'm sure if I'd gone and taken a look there would have been a handprint :p

I got my own back though...

Disclaimer: This is not how I like to be greeted on the stand. Anybody (else) who does so will be refused sweeties :p
