I managed to get Microsoft Money 2005 working on Windows 10 - don’t ask me how!

Afternoon all, Currently reviewing our leavers process as we haven't really got one since we moved to Office 365. The old process would involve creating a final backup of the users network home and mailbox before archiving it somewhere then deleting the user account. However now that we have moved to Office 365 we have a few more things to think about when somebody leaves: I'm intrigued to know your leavers processes for: A) An 'unimportant' leaver who you're happy to remove B) An 'important' leaver that you want to keep around Some more specific questions I have are: 1) Quite often mail to a leaver needs to be forwarded to a colleague or replacement. We have been converting to a shared mailbox and forwarding (so that we can re-use the license). 2a) When we remove the license, what happens if the user was the sole owner of a team? Does it become orphaned? 2b) If the user has OneDrive files shared with other users and we remove the license, do these files get purged after 30 days even if they are shared with other users? 2c) Is there a way to know what files / teams / sites a user has that are shared and move them before the user data is purged? 2d) This also refers to shared PowerBI Dashboards / Microsoft Forms in use / Sharepoint pages created. 3) What's the best way to do a backup of a user before we remove the license and let them be purged? We are about to start Veeam backups, so we can just have them as part of the retention policy there, but like to have them seperately too? Any information about your practices / answers to the questions above would be very helpful! Thanks all Karl

Solved this myself! But will leave it here for anyone that googles to find this! instead of entering WMIC then running the command, if i do it all together, it outputs correctly: WMIC /output:"\\server\files\%COMPUTERNAME%-programlist.txt" product where "name like %%Teamviewer%%'" get name, version

Trying to run some commands as part of a login script to give me a dump of the version of Teamviewer installed on PCs. Using WMIC to run a product get name, version and output to a txt file on a server. This is what i've used: /output:"\\server\files\%COMPUTERNAME%-programlist.txt" product where "name like %%Teamviewer%%'" get name, version However it doesn't replace %computername% with the computer name. If i do ipconfig/all >> "\\server\files\%COMPUTERNAME%-ipconfig.txt" then it saves it correctly. But this doesn't work when i'm in WMIC. Any help - much appreciated!

You’d be able to see if you copy a file from the Windows Share to the Mac, then check permissions on the file on the Mac. In my scenarios it’s giving current user r/w, everyone no access. Or 700 in unix permissions speak.

It’s not Mac to Windows Share that Is the issue. It’s Windows Share to Mac!

When accessed on the server, the files have the correct permission as per NTFS. Our users need to be able to copy from the server then share between macbooks directly.

Thanks for your responses, not sure either of you have understood my issue. The issue is that NTFS permissions do not travel with folders when copied from the Windows Share to the Macbook. Meaning that only the user that copied the file has access. I need to change the default permissions that files come down with.

Morning all, Been having all manner of Mac permissions issues for a while and i've found some fixes for a few bits but still boggled by one thing. Our mac users are accessing a windows share via SMB. They authenticate with their AD accounts (Macs are bound to AD). They can access the files/folders as needed on the share. They can create new files/folders and all users can access and read these. The users will copy a folder down to their Mac to work on it, then want to share these between each others Macs. When a folder is copied from the SMB share, its permissions are amended to owner r/w, everyone no access. So we have to do a manual tweak of the permissions to allow everyone r/w access. This is time consuming and not ideal. We had a similar issue with this happening on files made on their macs, but I have used a custom umask so that all new files/folders have everyone r/w by default, which works well. However, for the Windows share, this doesn't apply, and it doesn't seem to use the NTFS permissions when copying to the mac. How can I make it so that when files are copied to the Mac, they keep the permissions from the SMB share, rather than generate new restricted permissions? I've tried accessing via CIFS, which has been suggested on various articles. Any help, much appreciated!

Hi all, We use Office 365 and I need to be able to force download of images from a particular address/domain. Historically I could add this to my safe senders list and push it out via GPO. Not sure how I can do this with Office 365. I can't find a 'Safe Senders' section in the Exchange Admin Centre - only Spam Filter / Allowed Domains. That doesn't seem to affect what i'm doing though. Any idea on how to do this? I could really do with all users automatically getting images for this email address, i don't want people to have broken emails or have to allow it at the client end. Any help much appreciated. Karl

Saw this; its on my list of devices to look at, so hopefully will be in touch soon.
-
I have looked at the Flex Micro - along with similar SFF PCs from other vendors. - All well and good but they still don't give me a solution for physically securing to the desk though? Again, looked at the Stone Unistand - I think it looks hideous though.

Good afternoon all, We have always purchased desktops from RM Education, who of course no longer sell their own hardware. I'm at a point now where I am looking to start replacing some of these, and I'm trying to find devices that I can physically secure to the desk (so they can't move, rather than just for security reasons). We currently have RM Ascend 2050 (RM One) devices, and I would love something similar. My key points are: Being able to physically secure the device to the desk Minimal footprint Be able to replace components when warranty expires - ie as close to a standard PC as possible. (No glued together sleek AIO type designs) Protecting cables from being unplugged by students (not as crucial but ideal) Front facing ports - at least USB / Headphone. (Not crucial) Some pictures of existing devices / setup attached below.. My question is: What do you use for desktop devices? How do you find them? What options have you looked at? What do you do for physical security? Any guidance would be great! I looked at a number of devices recently, and at BETT last week, none have given me a full solution that i'm happy with but I have seen a few potential ideas. Regards, Karl

Thanks all, I have got some ideas of projects that may be coming up in the next year or two and some vendors I want to see. Will keep my eyes peeled for updates as BETT starts! Still feel like I might be overwhelmed, never been the best at speaking to salespeople!
-
Evening all... This year will be my first time going to BETT (after pestering my manager for a few years). I'm feeling like I might be slightly overwhelmed once I am there, however. I've read through the Tips for BETT threads. I've thought about the sort of things i'm particularly hoping to look at and a few vendors i'd like to speak to, but I'm not sure what the best thing to do past that is? I've also found a few seminar things that i'm interested in too. My colleagues are pestering me to get some cool freebies, what's the best way to go about getting these? This might seem a bit of a pointless post, but I want to try and make the most of the day, and not really sure what I'm trying to ask here HAHA!

[ms office - 2013] Mail Merge - Multiple Records on 1 Page
_kstone posted a topic in Office Software
Hi all, I've had a quick search but can't find what I'm after, also apologise as I'm sure it should be so simple! I am doing a mail merge in Word and want multiple records on 1 page. I've got a small table with my merge fields in with a next record underneath. It will only place the next record if you copy the table again underneath. This is fine when I know how many records I have, but if for example I repeat the table 4 times on the page and only have 3 records to merge, I have a blank table. How can I get it to repeat the table up until the records have finished and then stop? I'm sure it should be simple but I haven't managed to figure it out Thanks in advance! -
[ms office - 2013] Access - ListBox showing records, click to load record
_kstone replied to _kstone's topic in Office Software
Sorry, just read this - even when I add ApplicationID to the data to be used (and have it set as the Data Source) it still prompts for the ApplicationID EDIT: Nevermind. Added the ApplicationID field to the form and it works (I assumed that it would look at the table for the field, without it needing to be in the form! Oops! Thanks for looking! -
Hi all, I'm attempting to create a form in a database I'm designing that can be used to sort/filter and select records (and open said record in a new form) I have done this before, where it works fine, but i'm doing the same way this time and can't get it to work unfortunately. I've attached the database in question (using sample data atm) if anybody has a second to have a quick look? In summary, I have inserted a listbox into NavigationForm, and set the data to three fields from the External table. I have set the double click event to: Private Sub List6_DblClick(Cancel As Integer) DoCmd.OpenForm "ExternalForm", , , "ApplicationID = " & Me! [List6] End Sub On run, it prompts for an ApplicationID (although it should get this from the listbox. Not sure why it won't work External Database.zip

You know as much as I do haha, here's the script [void] [system.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("System.Drawing") [void] [system.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("System.Windows.Forms") $objForm = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.Form $objForm.Text = "Update Special Password" $objForm.Size = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(300,200) $objForm.StartPosition = "CenterScreen" $objForm.KeyPreview = $True $objForm.Add_KeyDown({if ($_.KeyCode -eq "Enter") {$x=$objTextBox.Text;$objForm.Close()}}) $objForm.Add_KeyDown({if ($_.KeyCode -eq "Escape") {$objForm.Close()}}) $OKButton = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.Button $OKButton.Location = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(75,120) $OKButton.Size = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(75,23) $OKButton.Text = "OK" $OKButton.Add_Click({$x=$objTextBox.Text;$objForm.Close()}) $objForm.Controls.Add($OKButton) $CancelButton = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.Button $CancelButton.Location = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(150,120) $CancelButton.Size = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(75,23) $CancelButton.Text = "Cancel" $CancelButton.Add_Click({$objForm.Close()}) $objForm.Controls.Add($CancelButton) $objLabel = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.Label $objLabel.Location = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(10,20) $objLabel.Size = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(280,20) $objLabel.Text = "Enter the new Special Password and press OK" $objForm.Controls.Add($objLabel) $objTextBox = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.TextBox $objTextBox.Location = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(10,40) $objTextBox.Size = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(260,20) $objForm.Controls.Add($objTextBox) $objForm.Topmost = $True $objForm.Add_Shown({$objForm.Activate()}) [void] $objForm.ShowDialog()

Morning all, My Powershell knowledge is fairly basic. I have a little script that provides the user with a single text box. The data that they enter here is saved as $x I now want to create a CSV file that has the value of $x in it, but i'm struggling a little bit. Does anybody know how to do this? I imagine it would actually be fairly simple! Many thanks

Yep unfortunately. Managed to replicate the error on another field by putting in a wrong bound column. Tried tweaking this on Tutors field but to no avail. The figure i've put in doesn't seem to match with the MS Access help? Eg. (Working example) - Control Source = StudentID, Row Source = [student Forename] & " " & [student Surname], StudentID The MS Help would indicate Bound Source should be set to 1 as the field should have the StudentID data saved, but show the Forename/Surname expression. However, it's set to 0 and works fine, but doesn't work with 1 set. So, think that might have something to do with it, but i've tried changing this and it hasn't fixed it yet.

Hi all, Working on a database that I did have working and now won't! Quick overview: Database has multiple tables for tutor, student, room etc. and these all link to a bookings table, using 1 to many relationships for all. ie. 1 student to many bookings. I have a form that allows the end user to enter bookings by selecting the ID for a student, tutor and room etc. When I select one of the tutors from the drop down list, it says I can't save or edit this record as it's not a valid entry from the tutors table. I know this to not be the case. If i enter the booking in the sub-table in the Tutors table, it accepts it. Then when i look in the form, it displays a different ID number (or sometimes blank). Doesn't anybody know why this might be the case? I have re selected where it looks the data up from, and I can't see any issues. I used the form wizard to create a new form for it, which works, but i wanted to tweak the existing rather than have to re-set up a new one with formatting then update links to it. Unable to share unfortunately due to confidential information stored in it. But can provide more details if needed. Just looking for pointers mainly at what to look for? Thanks!
