timbo343 Posted February 24, 2017 Author Posted February 24, 2017 The livery of the mclaren almost reminds me of the virgin f1 livery, the difference been orange instead of red.
Boredguy Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 It has been compared to the Marussia Manor paint scheme as well.
Al_NetSupport Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 especially with the piece of plasterboard attached to the engine cover. Can't disagree with that assessment! I'm a McLaren fan too, the new car looks great.... now lets just hope it doesn;t keep breaking down and can go a bit quicker than last year !!
tg12 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I'm loathed to admit it but I'm actually coming around to the new F1 regulations (I was very sceptical initially because all of it seemed to purely focussed on looks), the cars for the most part look interesting and there's lots of new ideas and interpretations on the aerodynamics side. That and teams are starting to realise that a good livery is appreciated.

Ha ha I said 'manor have bought mclaren' when it was revealed live. It looked red under the lights. I do love it however and think mclaren could surprise a few people this season.
Boredguy Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Day 1 of testing, and not even 45 mins in the Honda has an oil leak. At least it was the Red Bull that caused the first Red Flag of the session
sonofsanta Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 I think the shark fins can look good if the livery works well on it. The plain silver of the Force India looks appalling; worst looking car on the grid this year, I think :/ So many odd things on so many cars. Those weird Ferrari sidepods that look like they're winking, all these T-Wings above the rear-wing making cars look like mobile phone antennae, and what-the-actual-urgh is that Red Bull nose? "Pingu nose" is absolutely right Loving that new Toro Rosso livery though:
Boredguy Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Some of the shark fins and T wings have been a bit wobblie this morning while out on track, so they might get tweaked and beefed up a little bit. Shame TR did not go for the Sugar Free Red Bull colours
foofighterjim Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Looking at the shark fins can you imagine how badly these things are going to handle on a blustery & wet weekend at Silverstone. A gust of wind going into any of the high speed corners (Abbey, Copse and Stowe in particular) would just turn the rear end around.
Boredguy Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 How onimous is it that with 2 hours left in the first day of testing, Merc has done over 100 laps already... and McLaren has done 2!

A gust of wind going into any of the high speed corners (Abbey, Copse and Stowe in particular) would just turn the rear end around. Actually, I don't think it'd be quite as bad as you imagine. Yes, a good crosswind will definitely give the car a bit of a shove, but one of the benefits of a broad fin like this is that any yaw is quickly dampened out as the airflow around the car then pushes back on the exposed side of the fin. It's why Le Mans Protoype cars have been running them since 2011, they're very effective at stopping a sliding car from rolling as they were previously prone to doing. 1
XiJ Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Out here at the test. First time I've ever been and I'm like a kid in a sweet shop. Casually chatting aero with Gary Anderson over breakfast this morning - and had a photo with Ted Kravitz yesterday (also mad max - but it's Ted that everyone wants!). Cars look better on track with the shark fin but the merc still looks best - without it. They did a lot of running without it yesterday 2
Boredguy Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Not sure Williams is having the best couple of days testing. Stroll is racking up a large repair bill so far
Boredguy Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 The Mclaren has actually done some laps Yep they are over 50 now even if Alonso can't take turn 3 with much speed
mikkydoos Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 The Mclaren has actually done some laps Alonso was eighth last time I looked. Still not very good.
mikkydoos Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Alonso was eighth last time I looked. Still not very good. and they better get used to this .....
bald_pig Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Alonso was eighth last time I looked. Still not very good. 7th last time i checked.

synaesthesia Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Race distance/long runs, heavy fuel loads etc. Easily more they can tell in testing from doing that than just blatting round as fast as possible. I would expect him to throw in some glory laps soon though!
Boredguy Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Merc are doing mileage runs during this first test, setup/speed is planned for the second test. Although I did like Lewis' humour last night when the wet weather running today came up. "I might have to fake a muscle strain so BOT can go out instead" So far they have stayed in the garage instead of driving on the tanker soaked track
Gibbo Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Not sure Williams is having the best couple of days testing. Stroll is racking up a large repair bill so far At last, a replacement for Maldonardo! https://hasstrollcrashedyet.com/ 1
Boredguy Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 At last, a replacement for Maldonardo! https://hasstrollcrashedyet.com/ It's not to as high a standard as Alex Gillions one for Maldonardo though but then 2 crashes in 2 days is a good starting record, and means Massa can have the morning off while they try and build a 2nd tub for this afternoon (or go straight down the pub)
