Joanne Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I'm not up for contract renewal just yet, but for the last 10 years or so, I have been a DIE HARD HTC fanboiii or fangurrrll.. whatevs. Anyway, I have been looking at the Google Pixel and as shiny as it is, I can't really justify the £600 price tag. I've just happened upon a company called Xiaomi which so phones that are cheap and look decent spec wise. Also been on amazon and seen the likes of Wiley Fox and Huawei (I've previously installed their networking stuff and my boss was sold on it). So yeah, all Chinese phones... but has anyone used any of these brands and did they last? I have no doubt they will be awesome out of the box, but I find that my HTC is bashed about A LOT and it is fine, keeps its speed and doesn't smash to pieces. Don't want to buy one and then have to replace it 6 months down the line... may as well have got the Pixel Opinions please!
bald_pig Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Xiaomi is the biggest seller in china apparently, like a major brand. I have got my missus a Xiaomi phone for xmas, and I've had one of their action cameras for ages with no problems. 1

Oaktech Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I've had Huawei before and it was decent. The P9 range is apparently pretty good. My old colleague has has them for years, he's a diehard modder and swears by them because if you sign up for a developer account with them they release special software for them! I had a Xiaomi of some description a while ago as a loan phone from Carphone Warehouse while my Sony was in for repair and it was OK, but I think it was pretty low spec. 1
dry Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Huawei user here. Have been through a few 'up and coming' Chinese phones but found build quality to be lacking in most cases. Have had my Huawei P8 for almost a year now and been impressed. Build quality is very good. Regular software updates. Large user base which is helpful in keeping accessory costs down. I haven't found any apps to be incompatible with the hardware... even things like GTA San Andreas which is infamously picky with what it runs on worked straight away. Purchase price was low compared to other brands- just £150 for my P8 sim free. 1

I think this is a pretty decent buy. LeEco Le Max 2 - Full phone specifications I am currently using UMI Super which is a good spec cheap phone. I bought it for £125.00, battery life is amazing and the speed is incredible. Camera is not good at all and the fingerprint scanner has stopped working after the recent update. Well, you get what you pay .... 1
Arthur Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 If I didn't already have a Google Pixel XL, I would get the OnePlus 3T. The 3T has really really fast internal UFS 2.0 flash storage (and F2FS file-system) so even if it does slow down you shouldn't notice it. 2

I don't think it has mega build quality and battery life is alright not exceptional, but it was £160 and you can get them in Argos. Specwise I think it's pretty speedy and does everything I want with some nice little features to turn on camera/flashlight etc. Had generally amazing reviews along with the Wileyfox and Oneplus equivalents. I bought a case in the end as I trashed my Sony twice in 2 weeks! 1

Mine was ropey on the Swift 1 before finally breaking entirely and leaving me with a brick. Great phone otherwise.
bossman Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 OnePlus 3 here also, had all of the OnePlus series and they all still in fine working order now. Waiting for the release of the OnePlus 4 first quarter I believe at around £450.00 it will be the last one for me and I will move to Huaweii or Xiaomi as these are remarkable phones for the price. OnePlus have gone for high spec and good build quality at a marginally lower price than the big boys like Samsung and Apple and they will always do well but only if they keep the quality build and the price lower than £500.

Best phone I've ever owned, and I do love me that CyanogenOS. (No idea what Oxygen is like, them fancy OP2 and OP3 owners can tell you.)

This: http://www.xiaomidevice.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-3-pro.html for a similar sized one to the MOTO G4 new phone. Or get the smaller model. Or if you want to just dive into the latest versions but I went for the older one and I am not disappointed.
