office 365 work hours

is it possible to set office 365 to not allow users to receive email between say 8pm and 6am?

 

Ive got a school wanting to block access to it overnight (for me thats as much a hr issue as a tech one but ive been asked to look into it)

We were asked something similar but instead went down the route of our principal asking all staff to not email after 7pm, with obvious noteable exceptions such as emergencies. For that reason, I'd say putting in any sort of block would be an extremely bad idea.

We've been asked to do this too but we couldn't come up with a good way of doing it so in the end the Head just made it a policy not to send emails between 7pm and 6am unless important.

It cut out almost 90% of emails that were being sent at those times and the vast majority of the remainder are between staff and parents/students

We were also wanting to do something similar, but i've just rewrote a policy which is going next week - no e-mails on a Saturday and between 7 - 7 each day.

It is certainly doable to schedule a PowerShell script that sets a transport rule to activate and deactivate daily...

Seems crazy to me that we are asked such things that are ultimately a human not tech issue.

 

I'm prob not the only one that doesn't lie and say something cannot be done when I know full well that it may well be possible or worth looking into and will normally go 101% trying to resolve worth while issue.

When we were asked if it could be done they still wanted messages sent with high importance to get through and messages from parents to smt to get through and be replied to but not necessarily pupils unless they were urgent.
