Computer Usage Statistics

Good morning,

 

 

We have a lot of computers around the edge of classrooms which when I check on Impero are not being used so I'd love to redeploy elsewhere. Now when I ask the teachers they insist they use them often and they need to stay :-)

 

Does anyone have a piece of software or even a script that you can tie in with OU's or groups where you can input times so you can say for example out of 5 lessons on a Monday the computers were used only 20% of the time?

 

We used to have a report we could run when we used Ranger for Networks that made this so easy but I can't see anything that would make this easy using Impero?

 

We do have a log on script "echo %TIME%,%Date%,%USERNAME%,Log-on,%COMPUTERNAME% >> \\dc1\Log$\%COMPUTERNAME%.log" which does log some information needed but it takes a very long time to collate and group the information into usable useful information.

 

Please if anyone has any scripts or programs that can do this I am all ears :-)

try the power management reports in impero, you can get details for a given date range on the number of logins, the total time the computers had someone logged on, the amount of time they were on, and how much of that they were idle. should help you prove the amount of usage.

Thanks @mfurneaux I forgot about Impero's power management reports. I've just run one for a ICT room where I know the room is getting lots of use and in a whole week there was only 1 logon! O dear how I love Impero and the reports it produces.

 

Would you be kind enough to see if yours works and displays the right kind of amount of users logged on?

i've just run reports for yesterday and last week on one of our suites, both gave me results i'd expect - up to 35 logins over the week. we're running 5.1.05 though as we've found it stable and have avoided upgrading for a while. might be worth having a word with impero, won't help you with historical data though!

FYI the Computer Utilisation report in Impero Power Management has been broken in the last few releases. We logged a ticket, but they closed it acknowledging it was a bug and we would be notified when a fix was available. That was months ago...

Lansweeper has a power on / sleep / off report that may help. Purple is sleeping, Green is on, Blue is off (it fills it in once its back on).

Thanks John although I should have specified it really needs to show logons as the computers in these rooms mostly stay on. I guess I could always make them go to sleep though, good idea

Hi and thanks for the question. We don't have a feature that is identical, but yes, we absolutely do have lots of views for monitoring computer use. So we have things like dynamic groups in our tree view and one of these is for PCs that haven't been used for X days so you can spot kit better deployed elsewhere. Then in our Energy Monitoring module ( part of our power management) we have views for departments and individual PCs showing when someone logged in and out, when the PC was on and off etc.

 

I'll be honest, its more detailed and textual than simple and graphical and i quite like the Lansweeper approach. Will look to review for our next updates

Thanks I'd love to do this but on the version of Impero I am on the power reports are a known bug and are broken. What version of Impero are you on and do they still work?
