...The Chrome team working on V8, the part of the browser that runs the JavaScript programs that make websites tick, "significantly reduced the memory footprint" of websites like Imgur, Reddit, Twitter and The New York Times. The changes come in Chrome 55, due in December.

 

How much? One aspect called heap memory dropped 50 percent on average; another called zone memory dropped 40 percent. More optimization is in the works especially for lower-end devices with less than a gigabyte of memory.

On PCs with 32GB RAM, only being able to open 1,238 tabs is a bit limiting so this is a welcome improvement. :D

 

 

Who has a PC with 32GB of RAM!!!

My work computer has 32gb of ram. Never see it go above 8-10gb on a normal day.

My home one most I've seen it on about 25gb when I was running a bunch of vms

A far bigger issue potentially for people deciding to roll this out (Especially in education!) is that HTML5 is now king and any sites which don't have a HTML5 option will fall back to Flash and you have to 'enable' the plugin for such sites to run the content. Could cause a few headaches... ;)

 

32GB isn't really anything to write home about these days, I have 32GB in my PC and it cost <£100!

I upgraded my gaming PC to 64GB DDR4 RAM after noticing a pricing error on Amazon's website earlier this year. I managed to get it less than half price at the time (so ~£260). I thought that was a really good deal. :)

 

What?... That must have been one hell of a deal from ICTDirect_Dave! :D

I bet @ICTDirect_Dave has 256GB or 512GB RAM in his home PC!!! ;)

My work PC has 32GB, my member spreadsheet uses over 13GB of it when it's updating, and still takes several minutes...

Flash can be controlled via Chrome's ADMX.

 

HTML5 by Default

 

The following presentation demonstrates the current state of HTML5 by Default (HBD) and is meant to give an idea about the standard user flow and prompts. There maybe some minor changes, although the current UI should be viewed as effectively complete.

Just updated it,

 

I have 32gb RAM, before the update my 6 tabs (plus other stuff) was on 25% of memory usage, after the update it's on 18%!

 

Lovely improvement :)

Do we need a new ADMX template, or does the existing one do this?

Comparing the Chrome ADMX I downloaded in October to the latest ADMX, there isn't anything new relating to Flash Player so the existing templates should be fine depending upon when you last updated them.

you can now download an msi from adobe for flash for chrome and just fire that out as normal not sure it enables it but ive started seeing installs of chrome that were forcing users to download flash this seems to of stopped that. Lets hope some well known educational websites finally move away from flash content to html5

I think you also have to disable component updates for Chrome to use the system-installed PPAPI Flash plugin over the built-in plugin.

I've started seeing installs of Chrome that were forcing users to download Flash.

Lets hope some well known educational websites finally move away from Flash content to html5

Perhaps they will start looking into the possibility of switching to HTML5 the day after Google completely removes Flash from Chrome and in the meantime ask users to use Internet Explorer. ;)

13GBs? Do you have photos of everyone embedded in it? The entire bible is 1000th the size

No, the actual file size is only 1.5MB... Just uses 13GB+ when it's updating...

Nah, I've got a mere 32GB PC3-19200 (2400MHz) in my Gaming Rig, and 16GB 12800 in both my Macbook Pro and Gaming Laptop.

 

 

However....

 

The Z820 I'll be showing off at this year's BETT Show will have a whopping 256GB RAM!!! :cool:
