If you've not even supervised a school owned device or why this is so critical to any school owned iPad it's not really surprising you are getting problems...why on earth would you not be using One Drive for iOS on the iPads????

These are staff devices, not pupil. I don't see why supervising them would be a requirement. Its taken long enough to get staff trained to get photos off a digital camera, OneDrive is a step too far for many staff. It was also not great when it first came out (in the SkyDrive for Business days) but maybe it is worth investigating again.

Could always look into using https://foldr.io/

We tried that originally but its not as straightforward as you might think and SLT decided they'd rather spend the money elsewhere.

It is that you need to open itunes first and agree to the eula !!! I had the same issue and stopped installing itunes on computers.

Nope - it doesn't matter whether iTunes is on the PC or not. Its only some of the iPads that display this behaviour - so its not the way the PCs are setup.

2 reasons why all school owned devices should be supervised...

An unsupervised device requires an Apple ID to install the apps, those now belong to the Apple ID not the school.....unless you have given yourself even more work and managing all Apple ID's yourself.

If a teacher leaves your school and is not contactable, if that teacher has signed into Find My iPhone with their Apple ID to turn on activation lock there is no way for you to reset and wipe the iPad easily. With a supervised device and MDM you can reset the iPad activation lock yourself.

I see your points, but they aren't issues for us. (yet)

Staff are not allowed to install apps, its against the AUP they signed. I can push apps out from Meraki if there is one we need but they are only using free apps for the software we already use in school, i.e. Office365, Classroom monitor, the rest are just web based and work fine through safari.

We reset email passwords and associated appleIDs when staff members return their device before they leave so we have full control over them anyway.

OneDrive does seem to work quite well, its just getting staff to grips with it as its such a different way of doing things for them.

Had an issue today the PC would/would not recognise the iPad but i could hear the bing as it connected, was visible in Device Manager, also the iPad had the pop up Trust/Don't Trust this computer but when i tapped the trust nothing happened still not visible in My Computer, tried another cable same issue, tried the iPad on another machine all good and well hassle free, so i disconnected the iPad downloaded a fresh version of iTunes and reinstalled on the initial pc, restarted connected the iPad and all works as it should..teacher happy =i'm happy:D

Have you updated the OS to IOS10? Could it be related to the IOS update?

It has been updated to 10 now and is still not working, but it was just the same with 9.

I'm showing the teacher how to use Onedrive later today so hopefully that will be the end of it for now...

I found uninstalling the device from device manager and then reinstalling has worked for me in the past, I seem to recall there are two types of driver, one works and one doesn't. Wish I could tell you more, but I really can't remember now!

I gave up on plugging iPads in to get pictures, especially as now the iPads are supervised and in an MDM. Instead I use Feem file transfer, it's an app on the iPads and a program on the Windows machine, and can send anything on your camera roll between the two over your local network (no privacy issues over exposing your files to a third party). I did some notes, our teachers got the hang of it really quickly.

How much does Feem cost? They don't mention pricing on their website...

If you don't want to install iTunes you can just install two of its prerequisite components - Mobile Device Support and Application Support.

Hello,

I don't want to hijack this thread but this seemed the most logical place for my post!

We are having this issue and our devices are supervised and restricted to only work with the configurator host.

I cannot see a way to turn this off without wiping the device first - does anyone have any pointers please?

Thanks, Ed

Afaik if you didn't allow pairing when you first supervised the devices you will have to wipe them and set them up again with pairing allowed. Sorry!
