I am trying to get 3 of us down to BETT this year and the train prices are going to be bad (£500 return, off peak), so looking at driving down. I was wondering if people who had previously been knew what the parking was like, ie. is there plenty or will it all be full on the days of the BETT show?

There is onsite parking, with quick assess to the central corridor, you should be able to get it every day no problem.

It'll not be cheap though. and you'll have the joys of crossing London to contend with.

We used to drive down with our stand in a van, but it was so stressful, we now pay a driver and take the train ourselves. Much easier :)

It might be easier to park further out and get the tube / train in?

Excel says parking is £15 for 24 hours in their carparks, so not bad. Is traffic always bad down there or if we got there early ie. 7am woul dwe avaoid most of traffic?

The problem with the M1 and M25 is one day at X time it can be perfect, another day it could be shut.

If you are going to drive, go all the way to the M11/J27 and then cut in to avoid doing the north circular/A406. I would go for the drive in to BETT/EXCEL but keep checking the traffic online (iPhone maps is pretty good)

If you get there too early, there literally is nothing nearby. The option of getting the tube is a good one, I dont know of places on the outskirts near the M1 you could park and get the train in if traffic is bad.

You could drive to Watford and get the tube, but expect to spend an hour travelling on three different lines.

Park at Stanmore and ride the Jubileeeeeeeeeeee line for near enough its full length that is another way of doing it. Traffic around ExCeL is always awful I go past it when driving back to where I live and when big events are on, baring in mind BETT is usually just under half of ExCeLs event space they can have more than just half a building of Geeks so traffic can be pretty bad. Plus you get the snarl ups from Blackwall Tunnel impacting if its broken which is frequent :(

If you are stopping afterwards to have a drink with fellow members (appropriate drink for the designated driver, of course) then you will probably miss most of the Blackwall tunnel problems by the time you leave.

To be honest, it doesn't make much difference what time you head off ... at some point you will be on the M1 and then M25 during rush hour. Have some good music, some snacks / drinks and relish the good company you will have.
