Youtube through clevertouch boards

Hi all

 

As a special school the teachers use youtube a lot, we have bought 10 clevertouch boards but cant seem to get any of them to run the mobile version youtube (it'll run the desktop version but not brilliantly), has anyone had issues with this before? I am unsure if it's device related or filtering related.

They are running on the Built in Android System that comes with them.

Have you tried downloading the app through the store or sideloading it?

 

If not, have you tried: youtube.com/tv

Won't work through the store, it says its already installed, weirdly enough (tho it isn't), I haven't really messed about with sideloading, what's the best method?

 

I'll try TV when i get a chance in the class.

odd, the mobile version of the site works, but only if you have made the browser request the desktop site. But the pixelation on the videos in this format is ludicrous.

You can either download an APK for youtube off the web, if not, you'll have to enable developer mode and try a developer version of YouTube, that could work.

i'll try and give that a go. TV Mode isn't brilliant as it doesn't let you scroll through results via the touch screen

If you are talking about android on a tv hear then we had the same issue, we have alpha teach with built in android and its down to the software version of your TVs

 

We have used firefox flash browser to get it working on the older tvs but we are awaiting on a new version of android software which will work with the tvs.

It's not on a TV, its in a 65" interactive touchscreen with an Android OS Built in.

@NB9457 , that doesn't work, i can load the youtube apk, but it then says it requires the googple play services apk, i download it but then it says it isnt compatible, and throws me out of youtube. =[

I would speak to cleaver touch themselves who ever has fitted them will not know anything about them so go direct and they should help you more.

 

Its so silly that it doesn't work, like with android phone it updates all the time but with the tvs your are only allowed a certain version for specific tvs which have components in

Crisis averted, following on from nb's advice, i downloaded the APK fro chrome, this works fine with the mobile version of youtube. And also works with another issue we have which is being looked into....

Having the same problem here and tried a YouTube apk but it complains that it needs the Google Play Services installed

And while you're at it, BBC Media Player APK.

And if you want videos to play on any bbc site (Iplayer, bitesize etc), then you need to download the bbc media player apk.

Thank you. I am guessing if I put these apks onto USB stick, it will install on the TVs? Also how did you install certs for proxy based internet connections.

I considered downloading and putting onto USB before deciding to just make use of the built in browser and download them straight from the board. Both install in a few seconds and we now have very happy teachers able to use youtube.

 

Our internet sits behind a proxy address but it worked fine

What TraylerD said... although if you have proxy it may cause issues. Are you using it through ethernet, or wireless?

 

We found that if we had it through ethernet, we couldnt add the proxy details properly as the keyboard wouldn't load on that section, so we opened the browser, typed the proxy into the search bar and copied and pasted it into the proxy settings for the ethernet connection. We then found that after a restart, internet will not work at all until a factory reset....(but only that rubbish in built browser stops working, everything else like the cleverstore still works, and also chrome when you download it)

 

Wireless proxy works fine for us by just adding it when you add the connection. If you're adding Certificates for the proxy (such as to be able to use google's forced https service) you should just be able to download and install the certificate as you do on a computer, you have to set a screen lock code, but this doesn't actually have any affect (i think some software in the boards overrides the default screen lock with their own one, so it adds the screen lock code but you never have to use it)
