It looks like going from 4 networks to 8 networks doesn't give me the flexibility to extend with no reserved IP. So i think i would possibly need more for this to leave so reserved if when or need to increase.

Iv always been in environments where they are separated and for security that they cannot try and connect to other devices.

Thats what i though about needing more IPs and doesnt look enough to be honest. Iv worked off /22 and its given me this off 1000 IPs. I do not like have 4 vlans for student laptops as we have nearly 400 when i think it should be at least 2. what do you think to this. Good Morning I am wondering if anyone could help me to get familiar with how to setup multiple vlans. Currently we have a 1000 IP addresses and we have a flat network with our LA using fortinet filtering. Basically I want the following to be done - Staff Desktops Student Desktops Staff Wifi Student Wifi Tvs Student Mobile devices Staff Mobile Devices Printers CCTV Door Access WIFI APS - Not sure if that is needed ? To be honest i am not sure if i would need that many Vlans creating but this is just an example . So tell me if i am wrong would we need 2 iP addresses for Broadcasting and a gateway for each vlan ? If that was correct could someone give me an example table going off the following 192.168.1.1 -192.168.4.254 , I know its just over 100 IPs but if someone could show me and example that would be appropriated.

To Anyone who is an MDT expert I am trying to use a task seqence for robocopy to copy programs into a path director such as C:Program Files (x86). It does work with the task seqence cmd.exe /c %scriptroot%CopyPrograms.bat but i get errors with the following in the attached file. I have googled error codes an it does mentioned about network discovery needs to be turned on. It works fine when you manually run the batch file on the device itself. If anyone can help i would really appriciate it. Thanks

Hi Since i have upgraded to windows 11, my mapped drive to sharepoint has stopped working. I found out when i copied the url link from internet explorer work for me when i accesses sharepoint but soon as i logged in to sharepoint with edge and copied the url to the mapped network drive it keeps prompting me with credentials. Never had this issue with IE but it seems that the edge settings doesnt work. I have accepted the URL in the trusted sites. Would anyone be able to help with either a powershell script or batch file ? I have tried to use net use T:\\URL \persistent \:yes still no luck Can anyone help Thanks

Its a well known issue with updating sims which causes issues with CPOMS and Wonde. Its the only current fix by restarting you servers straight after your upgrade or after hours. I have been doing it for a while and its just remembering to do it.

I have just recently had an issue with XPorter software communicating with a 3rd Party called CPoms. Basically to cut a long story short the connect.ini had not been updated in the xporter folder. I would recommend you double checking that first.

I am not sure if i am correct on saying this but is there something called WMI for hyperV connections ? I had issues which my local Host could not see the connections on my server manager when i tried to used the Teaming on the NIC. I used a WMI powershell script which deleted the unknown connections and removed the VMS from HyperV but it didn't delete the VHDX. Once i restarted the local server and created a new VM with the existing VHDX both of my DC and FS servers where working fine. I am not saying that you should do this but it something which you could try as a last resort but out of hours. I hope you get this sorted quickly

Are your NIC cards Teamed on your local server ? I have disabled your Vms NIC card and enabled it again.

We are connecting our severs to the switches via Cat6 cable but our NIC cards are only up to 1GB. Not sure if it will hold 10gb but i would have to check. Do you think linking the core and the edge switch via fibre is the correct way or should i keep them separate ports on our council switch ?

Thanks for the reply Currently we connect from a council switch off cat5 to one of the 3 switches and then use a cat5 uplink to the second switch and then from the second switch to 3 poe switch. Ideally i want them fiber uplinks between the core and edge switch. I only have 2 servers on site as we are only a primary school. We run a dc and file server on one the other server is for image building and our AV . The unifi software is one server but its not a hardware controller. All i want on my core is my servers and unifi APs on the core and the desktops and printers on the edge switch. Does that seem basic / best way forward ? Can you recommend ? Thanks

Hi I am wondering if someone could point me in the correct direct of switches. We are currently using netgear switches which have been in for a long time. We are currently working off s flat network with no vlans and for security measures i want to implement this on our network. We are looking at Ubquiti switches but i have been told it has to be layer 3 for a core switch and layer 2 for an edge switch. We currently just have 3 netgear switches which are flat and one of them is poe which does our unifi APs and ideally i would want it better managed centrally. If there is anyone using ubiquiti switches could you share some information in regards to what you have got or if someone could recommend what i would need. Thanks

The only way to restart it from the touch screen is that you are made a full admin within the system. It should automatically log you in with the software to boot up within the startup folder. No passwords should be required

From what i have been told with the restricted laptop is that there is a portal which you can sign into which i think is an MDM but im not 100% sure if you can deploy a certificate to it. I am hoping you can , a free meraki account you can insert a certificate from fortinet and applied to our apple devices. We are all in the same boat together and its which way we turn , i have actually locked down a laptop locally that they cannot get access to the following computer management -create accounts , add group and reset passwords block windows store block cmd block run block gpedit.msc Hide C drive What is everyone else doing ?

How have you set up your laptop in regards to locking down within the laptop such as windows store ? C drive ? Creating MMCs etc Are your laptops on the domain ? or Azure ?

We understand the safeguarding of our students but after looking at the secure mode setup and unsecured setup we have gone with unsecured so that we can manage them to install software if require but having said that now im kind of regretting now going down the secure root as its locked down. I have laptops which are lockdown but its like being in prison and now being able to anything with it. Some of our kids don't even have a Microsoft account as they are connected to our LEA Azure , i am not sure how we would be able to get them logged in. This has opened up a large can of worms.

Hi Everyone I am wondering what technicians are doing in a primary school environment in regards to the Covid-19 Laptop scheme where students are being given a laptop for online learning if we go into a 2nd lockdown with schools closing. Looking at the Gov website , 4G devices are only given to secondary schools which i don't really agree with but as this scheme is introduce we are trying to safeguarding our students by putting in place a filtering system either it being an MDM or a 4G Dongle. Currently my laptops are unsecured from the scheme and the reason for it was that we could put out own software on as much as we wont. I know the secured way through the scheme would of been locked down through our council and it wouldn't work very well with out primary students. Could anyone who is working with primary schools please demonstrate what they are planning on doing with your laptops in case of a second lockdown, are parents going to have to take responsibilities for there actions on using the device appropriately ? Is there a way or providing a service where we can manage the filtering where is doesn't cost to much per year ? Is there a way of locking down workgroup users ? using local group policy ? I know there is a family app within windows 10 which we can use to manage but its assigning that particular laptop to a student if a bubble bursts. Can anyone help Thanks

Yes , i am limited resources and my company wont think its worth me doing it for them in the long term. I am supporting multiple sites with very low money to support me with learning my job properly. I know how to build a server from scratch with domains etc and vms using hyperv etc. There is more that i need to know about server 2016 and i will need to get this done asap. Hope you can point me in the direction.
