Looking at getting TP LINK TL-WA850RE range extender for home any one else use a wireless repeater?

Have you thought about using a powerline adapter set that can also broadcast the wifi signal?

I have found them better in terms of speed and reliability as they work much like an access point and then passes the data back down the power cables of your house there are some around that also let you pass the power through so you don't need a designated plug socket.

I use TP Link Power line and Wireless connected whatever Access Points. They all work quite good. I have multiple running. From my garden to my home server. To the bedrooms.

I use something similar in my house (although with a passthrough plug so I can still use the socket)

What about D-Link DHP-W311AV 500Mbps Wireless-N Powerline Kit as it can be had for about £35 on line. Or would people get stuff on ebay?

I buy stuff on ebay all the time - so far the worst experience I had was a set of 5 netgear managed APs I bought for a project didn't come with the advertised POE injectors and I had to send them an email threatening trading standards before they sent them to me.

 

Personally I've not had good experiences with range extenders, I've always either bought more APs and cabled them, or bought external antennas to improve the range.

 

I've used powerline adapters with reasonable success, but never as good as advertised!

That's a fools errand. You be much better getting a wireless bridge kit like the deliberant propeller 5 and puting one at each end and hanging another access point off the remote end.

Ubiquiti nanostation M5 bridge, a couple of hundred for 2 units, including cable We use it here to connect a storage unit to our main building, never fails even with waving branches. Been up with no maintenance 3 years now

Thanks for the replies - we have just allegedly been upgraded to Superfast Broadband (haha), but it appears that the two houses are connected to different cabinets and hence only one has availability! Hence my question.

The Ubiquiti offering is great, but if all it's doing is internet over a few 10s of metres, then the propellor 5 is much better value at just £65 an end!
