Joanne Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Yup that is a very good thing! Wonder how far I'ma walk? Probably until I get mugged!! Also contemplated walking into work... 70 minutes though. Can't justify setting off at 6:50 and getting home just after 5!
Duranis Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Found a couple of Jinx's last night and me and my youngest took over a gym (for about 20 minutes before someone else come and got it). Magnemite seems to be the most common one around here as i have caught 14 of them. Lots of the gyms around here already have 2 or 3 500+CP pokemon in them so hard to take them over at low level.
Geoff Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Get some friends to come and help you take the gym. Much like Ingress it's easier working as a group.
Garacesh Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) The annoying thing about Gyms is you need to throw your pokemon at them to level them up so that you can put a pokemon inside them. Which means by the time you level up the gym, your high pokemon are knocked out/1HP. So you end up either needing a tonne of Potions or about 8 high-level 'mons, as you can only put a Pokémon in a gym (or in a battle) if it's at full HP. Protip: If you're ever struggling for revives, Power-Up works in the same way using a Rare Candy does on a fainted pokemon in the games - It will revive it with the HP gain from the level up. DMcGuigan Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Caught a bunch of Jynxs and Drowzees on the way into work this morning, not a single one over 100 cp.. transfer time it is!
Tesla Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 you can only put a Pokémon in a gym (or in a battle) if it's at full HP. Found this out yesterday trying to put my pokemon on an empty gym. Then it crashed, and by the time it came back for me someone had already got it! I saw them go to it aswell, was so annoying!
eyetea Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Does the app have to be open when walking? Just asking as doing a few 5km jogs a week and tempted to play!
thimon Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 This is me at the moment, lvl 12. I'm lucky enough to have a Poke Stop just outside my flat so I can use it whilst at home, they reset after 5 mins and give you 50 - 150 xp each time. Mwahaha!

Garacesh Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Does the app have to be open when walking? Just asking as doing a few 5km jogs a week and tempted to play! It appears so. Tested that this morning, checked my egg status, left the app open and put my phone in my pocket (intentionally as part of the test, it would lock automatically after 30s). Walked halfway to work, checked egg status, no distance improvement. It also hadn't moved my character, and said there was no GPS. A few seconds later it found my GPS and made me run through peoples' houses at lightspeed to reach my current location. It's entirely possible that it's something to do with my device locking, but I've allowed Pokemon GO to use background data.
Mark182 Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Anyone want to tell me any GYM battle tips? One across from my house! ha. got to level 5, levelled a few of my Pokémon...got hammered.. Not sure about the swiping left and right to dodge attacks.
Tesla Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 There was an update yesterday on the App Store which I was able to download, and yes that fixed the google account issue. Hmm, did you manage to get it through the app store then? I had to do another workaround that didn't use the App Store (which we cant discuss on the thread)
Garacesh Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Anyone want to tell me any GYM battle tips? One across from my house! ha. got to level 5, levelled a few of my Pokémon...got hammered.. Not sure about the swiping left and right to dodge attacks. Swiping is pointless. It doesn't work. The server eats input like nobodies business. Forget about it. Tap your screen as quickly as possible to use your 'Normal' attack (the one without blue bars), as you deal damage, your blue bars will fill up. Once you have enough bars, press-and-hold to do your 'Secondary' attack. Usually you die before that's possible though. Type matchups do exist. Plan your party around this. Use high-CP doodz.

Not sure about the swiping left and right to dodge attacks. just tap the screen as fast as you can and when the blue bars below health are filled up, you can do your special attack (by holding down a press) , dodging does help to a certain degree i find. What @Garacesh said.
Garacesh Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Ahem. MOD NOTE: I have decided to restore the thread with a warning about posting workarounds. It's coming soon to the UK but I believe the servers are too swamped to deal with it for now. Please dont post workarounds for the store limitations here. Please remember the warning we were issued.
Tesla Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 I've made an [bLANK] which I used to download it. Make sure you're signed in with that in the App Store, it should be there under Updates. After it's updated just sign out then back in with your [bLANK]. Tried that numerous times, would not work, needed to add a card, and if i didn't, when i went to download it it said i had to be on the UK store. @Garacesh I can get away with it as i t didn't work? ha
thimon Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Ahem. Please remember the warning we were issued. My bad, sorry caught this thread near the end

Tesla Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Just popped out, my level 3 work colleague just picked up a chansey first go, i threw 2 pokeballs and then it ran away (both times the ball got 2 shakes) GRR!
Garacesh Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 I've noticed that, too.. When my housemates and I go out hunting together, if none of us have used incense, we all get the same pokemon appearing at the same time, though with variations of CP and movesets. However, we've established that if one of us uses an incense, the others do not benefit from it. If you want to help out your friends, use a Lure Module.
Geoff Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 The town where I live has multiple pokestops at the market. One was lured already so I walked down there and lured the other two. Quite a lot of trainers turned up soon after!
Garacesh Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 You da real MVP My housemate and I passed two pokestops next to each other that had been lured last Saturday, but it was right in the town centre and there were loads of drunks and kids from school (and some amalgamation of the two, by the looks of it..) so we didn't stick around.
DanTheLacky Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 So I went out at lunchtime today just to stop at some pokedex places in the town and grab some lunch. Only to see once my lunch break was up there was a gengar near me!! There are no Pokemon on site (as far as I know) so missed that one
