Anyone want to recommend me some not-in-ear-canal, not-over-the-ear headphones?

So, my iPod headphones have finally given up the ghost (not that I ever owned an iPod, I think they came with one of our staff iPads but they didn't want them.. anyhow) and one of the speakers has come loose from its housing, so I'm in need of a new pair.

 

I'm pretty picky, though...

They cannot, for the sake of everything, be in-ear headphones. They feel disgusting. Do not want. Wearing headphones that you have to wedge inside your ear canal is uncomfortable at best and actually painful after a while.

Over-the-ear headphones are very comfortable, but I can't help but think people look a bit.. I don't know the word.. when wearing them in public. I use over-the-ear headphones at home for gaming, but out in public it just seems like it's ostentatious or excessive. Plus I want to be able to stow them away easily.

So I'm left with earbud-style headphones that sit inside your ear (concha) without actually going into your ear canal. But I have no idea about brands. So recommendations would be fantastic.

Those all look like ones that go inside the ear canal I hate that feeling. Can't even use cotton buds or anything. It just feels so.. horrible to me. So ideally I'm looking for ones that rest in the concha. I'm not an Apple fanatic but I've been using their older generation earbuds for a while and the shape fits the bill pretty well. They don't invade my ear canal, they still stay in when I'm running, and I can put them in my pocket when I don't need them. Edited June 29, 2016 by Garacesh

I'm thinking maybe either Sennheiser MX 375's or Sennheiser MX 365's... 375's are apparently better (and cheaper, somehow..) but the 365's look better

 

The wire on them does look pretty flimsy, though..

I've become a big fan of AKG on-ear headphones over the years. if you shop around you can sometimes get them silly cheap and they fold down to a pocket friendly size.

What about some of the bone conducting ones? I haven't tried them myself but apparently they are pretty good in terms of sound quality and they also don't sit on/in your ears so are more comfy. The ones I have looked at don't look overly large either, unlike a lot of "over ear" headphones.

The headphones I got with my S6 are some of the best ones I have used to far, they don't sit too far in your ear and are comfortable for long periods. Only downside is they don't sit well when doing exercise (but most earphones are the same).

my 365s lasted about 14 months. Depends on how long you want out of your headphones, but at daily usage for over a year, can't go wrong for fifteen quid

I can't wear in ear, flat eats so they fall out

In the house HD600s over ear, so comfy and ears don't get too hot

 

For out and about or gaming in public (because the above could never be described as small headphones):

 

Try neckband headphones, I'm using the Sennheiser PMX60 at the moment, good enough outside. Also the PMX95 although they are little bigger.

 

Edit: They are fine for walking, but you might find them too loose for running. Pity there aren't any left with the soft rubber ear rests like the below :/

 

Wish I still had some Sony MDR-G61 headphones, they were really comfortable.

+1 for Sennheiser earphones. I've had several variations over the years, they're all good quality for what you pay for, and I always buy Sennheisers. I usually have to get a new pair every 12-18 months after being used almost daily. I'm currently using the MX 475s, which are a little more expensive than those 375s. I'm on my second pair of the 475s. They're good!

Ended up buying the 375's, which sound phenomenal, but I might actually buy a pair of the 365's too. The 365's aren't.. I don't really know how to describe it.. Symmetrical, I guess? Neither were my Apple headphones, but the 375's are, and I find they don't stay in my ear quite as well because of it.
