I had this issue recently with some Dell/Toshiba laptops, just update the WiFi drive or see if the closest router is set up correctly. The area I sit has a router but everyone in the room never seemed to get good connection until I simply restarted it.

 

Basically, just try updating the Wifi drivers for your laptops and restart the router in the area while you're there.

We had the specialists come in and try this, i will give it a try myself the only issue i have is that i would need to update 60 laptops. I will just focus on one trolley of 15 for now and see how it goes.

I have been told by some company's that you will need AC because of the Dual Band etc. But i don't believe it purely because there was a time where AC did not exist.

 

Any suggestions?

 

You don't 'need' AC to answer your question - most newer Toshiba notebooks for example come with Dual Band cards, so they'll work with all a/b/g/n/ac standards, both 2.4GHz and 5GHz - b/g/n working in 2.4GHz and a/n/ac operating in 5GHz.

 

To give you an idea, only the newest iPad Air 2 has an AC Adapter - all older iPads (version 2 and later) have Dual Band a/b/g/n adapters, so buying AC Access Points is only going to benefit the few and not the many.

 

Don't get me wrong, if I was starting again as new or putting in new equipment, I would possibly think about AC (depending on the price), however many devices don't use the full capability of wireless n operating at a maximum 300Mbps as it is.

Yeah i feel something somewhere is not set up correctly. But yeah if i knew this was going to happen i would of went with AC. So much less hassle i went for better battery life and N instead big mistake. The thing that makes me wonder is why the routers just collapse as well as the connections. However the next AP along will be operating like nothing has happened.

Some of it depends on the router's hardware/software. My Cisco Wireless APs never fail, they were installed above the dropped ceiling by a contractor and I've never physically seen some of them in 8 years.

 

They're just computers really, they fail for the same reasons, too busy for the cpu, bad software, overheating, loose connections.

 

Newer routers will have faster CPUs in general
