How can we stop the limeys returning to power if we don't have our guns?

Point to note. Nobody who uses firearms professionaly says 'clip'. It's always 'magazine' and also only use 'mag' when in a hurry i.e. 'You need 2 mags of 30 and one of 10'. A clip is something else. Sorry, it annoys me.

localzuk Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 These tragedies will continue to happen until America can fix its broken gun laws. There's 1 step in the right direction happening at the moment. The 9th Circuit ruled that the right to bear arms doesn't apply outside of private property. It'll more than likely be appealed to the Supreme Court, but they may reject the appeal (as they have done recently with most gun related cases). The key thing I find absurd is that people can be stopped from flying on planes, but they can't be stopped from buying a military spec weapon.

Actually the professional firearm users aren't usually the problem. It's the amateurs that like owning the biggest, noisiest, most likely to kill lots of things in one go that are the problem.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." they already have limits you can own flamethrowers or functioning tanks (well weapons functioning) i believe its just about where you draw the line. Reading it directly as read in theory there is nothing stopping you from owning nuclear icmbs but i suspect the cia/fbi might take a different view. The word of the law is being used to justify altering the intent of the law

They can rush through legislation overnight to stop trans people using the "wrong" bathroom for "public safety", but they apparently can't do anything at all to prevent this (says only nation where this regularly happens). There were 372 mass shootings in 2015. More than one a day. One tweet I read on Sunday pointed out that there have been 8 mass shootings in Canada in 20 years; there have been 7 in the US since Monday. It's not just the gun laws, which are clearly insane in prioritising a 250-year old concern about government tyranny over the lives of real people (as if a "well regulated militia" could do squat against the best armed military in the world; it is apparently without a sense of irony that the same groups of people supporting the NRA support the militarisation of police and the enormous growth of the US military's capabilities). It's the level of intolerance and hatred in the culture. I know we're not perfect, and have more than enough troubles, but in general groups like the EDL are looked down upon; in America, racism, sexism and homophobia seem almost the default for people in positions of power, from the police to the goddamned Republican nominee. localzuk Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 The whole gun thing seems like it could be fixed quickly to me - the constitution says you can infringe on the right to bear arms. Bear has been determined to mean "carry". Doesn't say anything about selling or buying them though.

The thing is America are between a rock & a hard place with gun control, if they passed a law tonight outright banning all firearms, how are they going to get rid of them? There are 300 million registered guns in the USA, and the deranged people like this Islamic extremist won't just give them up. I think it's hard for us in the UK to grasp the love affair Americans have with guns and I honestly think if they tried banning them there would be huge civil unrest, maybe even war, the last thing you want as a government is millions of angry, armed citizens taking to the streets over a breach of their "constitutional rights". It's an impossible dilemma they've got themselves in. (Not saying I'm for guns btw) 2

I'd bet my AK that there are a lot more NRA nutjobs than Islamic extremists who'd resist giving up their guns. The point still stands, 300 million guns regardless of who owns them won't just disappear overnight, a delicate situation for the USA to deal with. "I'd bet my AK" seems a little disrespectful given the subject of the thread though.
