sonofsanta Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 This game sounds so good. I am going to lose all my time and sleep to this, aren't I? Civilization 6: The most in-depth Civ to date | Ars Technica
Grey-gear Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 The yogscast have done a few videos on Civilization 6, it's quite fun to watch and get an idea of how the game follows.
bennz Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 The way they have redone the map with your city buildings being on the map in tiles changes the look and feel of the game completely. I watched a PC gamer video recently where the guy was talking about how impressed he was with the music, each nation has its own backing music that starts off really simple with a base melody and grows as your nation moves into a new age Civ 6's music evolves alongside your cities, and it's one of its best features | PC Gamer he explains it far better than I will/.
Sagima Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Pre-ordered £40 from gmg (cheapest version). Love civ 5 (getting rid of stacking and moving to hexes were great ideas). Loved civs 2-4 as well (I don't think I've ever played the first one) Was a bit torn as whether to wait til Christmas as i'm likely to finish my current game (Pillars of eternity) this week and then I need to find something that will take up no more than 8-10 days of my time to complete and really the next game to play is the blood and wine expansion to witcher3. Now I'm wondering if I'm going to regret not pre-purchasing the dlc packs in the deluxe version
Grey-gear Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 On Amazon you can get Civ 6 for £38.00 if you have Amazon prime if you don't mind the disc version of the game
sonofsanta Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Been reading the previews that have popped up around the web and oh my goodness this sounds so good. I will get burnt again, because no Civ is ever ready at launch despite how excited I've gotten myself, but this one sounds really good!

The school owes me an afternoon off but rather than taking it today I have decided to take it next friday as hopefully then they'll have patched the worst of the launch bugs out of it
Grey-gear Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Anyone had a chance to play this yet? Anything buggy that you have found?
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Im interested to hear what people think of it. I've played them all to some extent apart from civIII, which I never got hold of. However I've never been as satisfied playing one as I was with Civ II (and Alpha Centauri after that). I gave beyond earth a shot when it came out and was completely underwhelmed by the experience. Tell me good things?
Sagima Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Thought I would fire it up just to see what had changed then suddenly it was Sunday night (or at least that how it seemed). I think I'm going to like almost all of the changes once I get used to them. No queueing might take a while though. Districts adds a bit more city placement thinking about as mountains suddenly seem useful in city and I'll need to be able to pace them around resources so I can get bonuses without losing other bonuses. I found . a graphic on reddit that might help me if I have another stab at it tonight They could do with doing a bit of work on builders and improvements - I'm not very good at seeing what's already been done. I always hated the barbarians but now they serve more of a purpose (boosts) so I feel I can't play without them although they have been gentle with me so far (even walking past completely undefended cities)
Novalee Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Any update on how this is? Still can't afford to splash out on it, but would like to soon! I'd heard it isn't great though? Still seem to be a fair few people playing Civ V online so I guess not everyone has got it yet.
Saladin Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 I personally think it is a good game but not as good as Civ V. However, Civ V was released in 2010 and has had many tweaks etc and expansion packs since its release. This means that Civ V is very polished and IMO the best it can be, and there is all the added fun of user mods too. Civ VI only came out late last year and the product we got felt unfinished so, maybe it was a combination of them releasing it too early and being compared to the masterpiece of Civ V which caused the very average and mixed reviews. Civ VI has had a couple of very major updates since its release which has helped but I do think it has a long way to go before it can compare to Civ V. I hope it will get there eventually but whether or not to buy it now is up to you. You're not missing out on anything major right now so maybe give it some time for a few more updates and also a further reduction in price. It is around £20-£25 at the moment which I think is worth it, but I enjoy playing after each update and seeing whats changed.
failnator Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Personally, I play CIV 5 over 6 mainly due to I don like the way that CIV 6 does districts. They just feel so alien to me.
Pottsey Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 (edited) Any update on how this is? Still can't afford to splash out on it, but would like to soon! I'd heard it isn't great though? Still seem to be a fair few people playing Civ V online so I guess not everyone has got it yet. Its the worst Civ game that I can remember. The AI is still broken to the point of making it pointless to play. Even on the hardest difficulty settings 3 archers and a warrior will walk over an AI empires capturing city after city. If you build a wall in your city the AI has no idea what to do and won’t be able to capture it. Don’t think I have ever lost a city once it’s built a wall. Not because I defend, it’s just the AI will attack for a few turns, give up and wonder off. The point I gave up was in a multiplayer game on one of the hardest difficulty settings I had the worst game in years. Not because of anything the AI did, I just had a bad start and was playing bad. My empire was tiny, 99% tundra land and I was doing absolutely dreadful. That in itself did not bother me, what bothered me was in any other civ game that would have me in last place as I should be. In Civ 6 I was ahead of every single AI empire even the empires that had a good start and no problems. This was on a normal map, on water maps you may as well play solo and not even turn the AI on. The AI just such a walk over it ruins the game. Edited September 22, 2017 by Pottsey
