newpersn Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Yep. It's that time to start planing your summer work. Always nice to know what other members are doing • moving internet provider • office 365 move. • Windows 10 rollout (maybe) And other bits.
FN-GM Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Joining 2 more schools to the MAT network. Re patch all the data cabinets in 1 school Install Windows 10 on the reaming machines (MAT wide). Most should be done before summer. Replace the HDD's for SSD's in one of the primary schools. Dump VMware and replace for Hyper-v
mrbios Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) OM1 Fibre is all being upgraded to OM3...need a damn hydrolic machine to lift the man hole covers that have been concreted in place. All analog and digital phones are being replaced with VoIP ones, and setting up FreePBX (Sangoma S300/500/700 phones, zero touch setup woop woop) New ISP + new firewall (setting this up now...45 day lead time, done in 18 days instead ) Roughly 60 new network points being installed in various locations all over the school Aerohive wireless network consisting of 50 APs going in IF we get all that done with time to spare then i'll be documenting all the cabs in the school, and then repatching as many as possible to go super duper tidy. Last week I installed/replaced (depending on location) 11 new switches to bring us up to PoE in most locations ready for the phones and wireless. Still one or two areas that'll need injectors for the time being though unfortunately, but no more than 2 in any cab thankfully. Got a bunch of other small tasks to do on top of this, like enabling single sign on for various services etc. but not worth listing all the little jobs Dump VMware and replace for Hyper-v I wanted to do that, but I love VMware so much....going to wait until the nano server now though, due to having zero disks in any of our servers. googlemad Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 How long does it take to deploy Windows 10? I did a fresh install on my i5 PC at home the other day from a USB3 pen drive to an SSD and it was done and dusted within 10 minutes! Getting to the stage where it takes longer to take apart the packaging than it does to actually configure the PC software wise
Iain.Faulkner Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Well.....we put in budget proposals for the next year and were turned down....so plans for this summer are now probably... Office moves Maybe some deployment of Windows 10

Grey-gear Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 So far just most likely move two computer rooms and then the normal stuff.
hardtailstar Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Software updates Classroom repairs South Africa for two weeks Classroom repairs Software Updates
Lonix Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I started a couple of weeks ago. Few new IT areas to make sure is working. A ton of cabling work: New phone system, spare networking etc. CCTV galore. Usual holiday maintenance. Think I'm on page two of my list almost page three to make sure nothing is missed.
3s-gtech Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Office 2016 OS X El Capitan rollout (we always run one behind) CS5.5->CS6 (Creative Cloud eh?) Very little cost implication for us, as CS6 was included as a maintenance update. We're 100% SSD, sticking to Windows 7, our hardware is fine, so might be a quiet one (touch wood).
pete Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 So far..... Network and fibre work to support building refurbishment. New PCs ~80-odd. New EES agreement Windows 10 rollout Office 2016 rollout (once I've gone through the terrible software list to see what breaks) New copiers across the site. Hypervisor upgrade Possible Hypervisor move to Hyper-V (if I can get a sensible window to do it in) and many things I'm probably forgetting...
eyetea Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Replace ICT suite Replace HDDs in teacher PCs with SSDs Replacement of phone system Office rollout Look at creating W10 image Finalise print solution to implement in oct half term
Boredguy Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 About 400-500 meters of fibre to install to a new sports hall that is currently being constructed (plus additional cables for telephones, alarms etc) And that's about it so far (unless someone comes up with a request in the next couple of days as our budgets shut next Wednesday!)
