It's amazing just how things have progressed in such a short time. I've used servers smaller than that thing which are probably several orders of magnitude faster.

The predecessor he used to have to lug was a Compaq portable like this

 

It weighed around 5 tonnes and it was the job of junior trainees like him to get them to audits. They were however allowed to get a taxi on expenses if they were in charge of these, so it wasn't all bad!

Next time some one says their laptop is going very slow because it's not the latest thing, give them that - then say "SLOW, THIS IS SLOW!!!!".

US Robotics modem attached for remote access.

 

We had Harvard Graphics, Multimate, cc:Mail, Lotus 1-2-3 on them if I remember correctly.
