JoeFulford Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Hi All, Please help me out. I've spent 8 hours on this and hoping someone else has the same issue. A windows update was approved by my colleague last week I believe and it's broken the MSI service on my machines. I can't install anything or update anything that requires an MSI. Normal fixes found on Microsoft's website and forums don't fix the issue. I'm almost certain it's a windows update issue. I can't find out what update it is though and I'm close to jumping out the window right down to the ground. Is anyone else having the same issue anywhere? Thanks Joe
Michael Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 What error(s) do you see when trying to install an application, presumably via Group Policy or manually?
JoeFulford Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 What error(s) do you see when trying to install an application, presumably via Group Policy or manually? I receive the windows installer service cannot be accessed error. I've tried every single suggestion on the internet and no luck... only fix I've found is to re-image machines. This has fixed the issue but it's not a viable option for me to re-image every PC for this when I'm hoping and guessing that just uninstalling the update should fix the issue.
JoeFulford Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 I don't know which one it is and plus it doesn't remove it from machines that have already grabbed and installed the update.
network41 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Can you logon to one of the client PCs look at the Windows Updates and check by the date they were installed what was installed last week . Might give you a starting point
JoeFulford Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 Tried that and all I can see are ones from 14th of last month. Unless somehow it's gone undetected from then. I've uninstalled a few but hasn't fixed my installer issue. Not even sure simply uninstalling will fix it, but no other fix online has worked so I'm just hoping it will.
RobD Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Is it this one: KB3139923 https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/7109081b-a82a-46e4-b6fe-f19b7d56e431/problem-with-some-msi-installs-after-kb3139923?forum=w7itproinstall

JoeFulford Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 Thanks a lot! I've been looking around for articles for ages but wasn't able to find out anywhere! Uninstalling Kb3139923 fixed the issue. You can also fix it by installing KB3072630
