I can delete these .log files can't I? They will recreate won't they? Deleted 3GB worth of Sophos logs.

Yep, CBS.log shouldn't grow that big...

Stop the "Windows Module Installer" service and then delete the log, then restart the service.

As for other logs... chances are a lot of them can be cleaned up. Pretty colours is one reason I like WinDirStat.

Patch Cleaner claims to have found 20GB of orphaned files, so just moving them onto another partition. 20GB.... just... don't get it!

Thanks all for holding my hand through that. I really should have the confidence to go through with things like that all by myself!!

I don't mind doing things like that on a laptop, but when it comes to the server I do get a bit nervous... and so I should really :)

Damned orphaned MSI files! I've had to go round every machine with a 64GB SSD (from our first batch) running Patch Cleaner. Lots of space freed (from a few KB to 20GB!) afterwards, but Windows is so sloppy in its management that it has meant a lot of unnecessary work.

I should mention that I've done this on our Exchange server. A bit nerve wracking, but it ran out of space with no expansion possible. Worked fine.

Ive got the same problem on my Exchange 2010 physical box. The C: has less than 4Gb and has stopped accepting external emails. It's total size is 100Gb.

Im not sure what i can do other than use Gparted. The Mailboxes are on F.

I expect an Exchange server has IIS logs stretching back--anything under C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles can be deleted/moved, and that can claw back gigabytes.

The inetpub folder is only 500kb. The majority is in the WIndows folder. A restart has fixed the issue but still at 3.9gb on the C drive.

It's the Exchange logs themselves usually. Even if you have a dedicated drive for logs, a lot of junk accumulates on C. I found some guides online that let me move these, but as usual I'm now home and don't have these to hand. Have a look with Treesize first.

As you can see from this screen shot as well as the one above, its the Windows folder which is causing the problem

My bad. You need to install the Desktop Experience pack onto the server via Server Manager. Then do a disk cleanup. Might be worth stopping the Windows Update service, deleting the contents of SoftwareDistribution then restart the service and check for updates.

Hey @timbo343 is the mail queue on C:? You could always move that.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125177(v=exchg.150).aspx

It was the mail queue, we couldnt receive mail from external and had a message of the drive is at 95% full but the server is going to run out of space on C anyway.

Ive left it running gparted over a Raid 5 (both C and E are partitions of the raid) for the night and im back in at 8.30 tomorrow to see what the result is. Might have to have a few drinks tonight to calm my nerves, im bricking it at the moment.

Im now seriouly considering moving the staff email over to O365. Ive had enough of onprem exchange but i do like my GFI mailessentials.

No worries, ill look at getting the Desktop Experience Pack installed, thank you. I just hope it boots ok in the morning and the mailbox db is ok. Its only 43gb for 105 users, thank god for quotaing :D.

Suspected so - it often gets left on the c: drive and this happens from time to time.

Hope all is going well!

Was all up and running by 9am :). Went in at 8.30, rebooted from gparted, it did its disc checks, rebooted a few times and jobs a good'un.
