We deploy it through GPO (although would love to get rid of it.. but educational software doesn't allow us too! ).. We have Windows 7, IE11 and the latest version on flash player (activeX) - 21.0.0.213, installed on our workstations, every so often a computer at random decides that it is going to remove the speaker button from youtube (see image below) When it does this, you get no sound just video.. cannot find a way of resolving it, we have just been reimaging the machines, today all of the computers have no sound on youtube. (this is a big deal to teachers). I think its trying to play it using HTML5 but can't force it to use flash.. have checked online and it says we have the latest version installed and that it is working, We did push out the latest the other day last week but it did install on them machines and we haven't had any issues until today.. What could be the cause and how do we resolve it? i will now find a rocking chair to rock back and forth in....
LeMarchand Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I've found that using Chrome seems to work when this happens. One might almost suspect that Google were trying to encourage users to switch from IE by making it so that their products don't work well with it...

3s-gtech Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Phew! Getting senile in my old age, I can see that it is 7 now. I can confirm that the same video works for me fine here, and I haven't experienced this issue with the same OS and browser (we only use IE here, and Youtube is heavily used). Can you try on an account with no GPs applied to see if something from there is causing it?

Chuckster Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Surprisingly, on this occasion, Flash Player isn't the problem. You need to go to Internet Options, select the Advanced tab and scroll down to the heading Multimedia. You need to put a tick next to 'Play animations in webpages' and 'Play sounds in webpages'. I have had this problem from the start of this week on Windows 7.
Bladez Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I have been experiencing the exact same issue this morning with IE11, yet they are fine with Chrome. I have been installing flash etc like its going out of fashion. Most Teachers use chrome here, its is only a few that have reported the sound issues, but it is always 'those ones' if you know what i mean who it happened too, and switching to chrome is far too hard.

Couldn't tell you for sure as I don't have any fresh vanilla Windows 7 machines and our GP is very old and been 'tweaked' since long before I got here, but iirc there were a couple of other boxes unticked which I filled for good measure! In fact I've recently been having trouble with Youtube showing up all broken and basic HTML style, that was fixed by an SSL tickbox or something. I think between the filtering and Google's HTTPS there was a mismatch in IE... Kol.
ITGURU Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 We had the same problem - however it's not a flash issue. in IE you need to ensure the tick box is selected to enable sounds in webpages. I have it set in the IE GPO settings so always enabled for all users.

We're using IE11 and have the Play Animations and Sounds options ticked in GPP (always have done). This just seems to have happened recently as well. Now not one person can use IE with youtube. A lot use Chrome anyway but as IE is still our default browser it causes problems with links. We updated to Flash 21 recently so I'm suspecting that has broken it.

Just sits there on the Adobe Download Manager box all grey with nothing happening! Had to install a standalone package. Not sure this is purely flash related though as it will not install the latest Java either, the web installers just hang - had to go back to an earlier version and update from within the control panel ... Hope this is just an isolated incident and not a portent of things to come!

We updated to Flash 21 recently so I'm suspecting that has broken it. i find about 50% of the time msi for flash dosent work. shows in programs and feature but dosent work and i have to resort to scripting its install often preceding it fith flash uninstaller
