We are a SIMS Learning Gateway school but not Lancashire.

What do you guys think of it and how do you use it? Thanks for the reply!

Hey Mark,

Our headteacher paid for 5 years and we only used it to report to parents. We are now out of contract and moving to FireFly. If we had the SLG hosted onsite I would have asked for us to keep using it so we can do much more. 1 example being absence leave forms, having custom queries running from sims and checking how much time one had left, checking whether they were a support staff or teaching and then having a form to fill out which would go into SIMs and also to the relevant persons. An example that i couldn't make work as we were hosted.

We are also self hosted and have been for 5+ years. I do the upgrades myself and all parents logon to check their reports, attendance etc.

We've had very little issues if any and the parents seem to like it although they don't really know about any other system to compare it with.

We no longer print any reports and everything goes onto the SLG other than around 20 families who have opted out which out of a school of 1,500 students is not bad going.

Theres not a lot of fans on here with regards to SLG but that maybe more so those who are CAPITA hosted as they have little flexibility for change / reporting etc.

Had it for 3 years onsite, got rid of it and installed TASC insight. Much better experience and 20% of the price.

Sharepoint is dead now so I guess they will move away from it eventually.

Echo that here.

Been running it for a couple of years, hosting it ourselves. Technical side has been OK, but I'd advise you to get as many people involved in the implementation of it as possible; it really is a whole school project trying to sculpt what data you show and to who, and thinking about what impact this will have in terms of the way things are currently done in terms of attendance, behaviour, etc. We went in quite quickly and it's caused a few issues.

You're also tripling your supported user base, which is fun....

In Lancashire and using SLG, remotely hosted, but we're ditching it this month in favour of MY Ed, which is done by the company that does keepkidssafe. My Ed is smartphone app and much easier to use, also means we can send messages to parents and not have to pay for texts.

SLG generally worked ok, capita support was always good. Parents used it but the takeup wasn't huge. No one was particularly in charge of the content on it and I only edited stuff with help from capita when parents requested it, which was once. Although I had to keep changing passwords for parents.

The smt feel a smartphone app is much more useful and user friendly to parents.

Sorry to bother you, but I saw you said you use slg. We are new to using it and have just started writing reviews/reports on it. We have done the reviews on marksheets. My query is, is there a way on slg that, as a tutor, I can proof read all my tutees reviews (a grade and a comment), before they are live for parents. I can do it on sims, but that's only during school time. Thank you in advance. Janet

Aggregate all the comments into a big Template. Add a Marksheet for the Year Group or Course Group. Ensure your a supervisor of the chosen groups (Pastoral Structure for Year Group, Course Manager for Course Group). The marksheet will now be "yours" and should show. Additional permissions can also allow "all marksheets" to be visible.

The same applies for SIMS Teacher App
