LDAP over SSL port open (Restricted via Firewall to their IP addresses). Low level account bind for access to read etc.

While not ideal and Read-Only DC etc better it was a last minute thing (as normal due to no knowledge of stuff being bought :p)

Use Google authentication.

Set up a Office365 instance.

Set up a Google Apps for education instance

Configure Google Apps to use Office365/AzureAD for authentication.

Install AzureAD Connect on a local server.

Sync, and then JOB DONE.

Benefit: you have an Office365 instance, and a Google apps instance and basically any new cloudy request you recieve you can handle. Works like a charm.

Can anyone answer this question for me. Does SMHW usually ask users who are having difficulty log on using office 365 to give them their password to their email account. Or is this just a lapse by a helpdesk technician?

We cant get them to connect to our AD domain. Their support seems disinterested at the moment. Just to add we are a new customer this year and i personally have little faith in them Edited by timbo343

Our Database Manager is the contact for staff, students, and parents for Show My Homework. Despite being told this on many occasions staff and parents still direct their Show My Homework our way. This wastes our time because all I can say is talk to our Database Manager. I wish it would stop.

We are a brand new customer this year. Was working fine with AD single sign on up to last Thursday then their trainer came, made changes to our setup now none of our single sign works. Contacted support via email and phone last Thursday no call backs, rang around 12 times then finally got a reply on Monday afternoon. Now there not sure what's up with it and each time they email back with something to try I reply back and it takes them another day or so to reply again! They seem to have no interest in providing support as I got told my issue was in a queue and I would have to wait our turn before they could recommend anything. Edited by mattstevenson2005

I had the issues with ad single sign on. They changed ip addresses and my firewall rule don't reflect it. Not that is it? Everything the same in terms of ad settings? You haven't moved used from one ou to another?

Our LDAP is still working fine, they give you 3 IPs for the firewall, if they have update them then noone told us.

We have had major issues with Year 7s not syncing then they did sync but you could only print letters individually if you did the "Year 7" letters you got last years year 7s, so effectively year 8s. We now have another issue, which probably existed when we trialled it last term but noone noticed which is causing us problems instead, although thsi time it might not fully be Show My Homeworks fault (though given it took me 5 days to even get told the problem I am rather sceptical).

Was going to say what IP changed? Not heard anything about it, still just got the original 3 in

When did they change their IPs. Like another post i have 3 IPs. When they try to connect they said they get an SSL error. I keep telling them we dont have a SSL cert for this connection so was told to use another port.. not 389 which LDAP unsecure uses. Once i know LDAP is working then ill proceed to get a cert for this connection. Until then im waiting for them.

all the 3 IPs are allowed on the secure AD port, they have been sent all the OUs for staff and students, its strange that now they have done something at their end I can login with single sign on but no one else can!

Have called multiple times but no one is ever available, when I have asked for them to call back I get told they only like to respond by email!!..... I told the lady we have had the product for over a week now and we still cannot use it! Their support is terrible, I would recommend people to stay away from this company, product is good but after sales care is non existent and they don't seem to care. Has taken 7 days so far to get a useless reply by email but no suggestion on when the issues will be resolved, I only get replies that state "it will be passed to our engineering team"

Do any of you use Google account for your sign on? Just wondering if any of you have managed to get SMH to pull over e-mail from SIMS. I've logged a job with them but heard nothing back. Last year we had to align numerous CSV's to get everything right for an import. I would rather it just pull it from SIMS now emails are in there.

Seeing as im a new customer to SMHW and using a smoothwall, can i check with anyone who also has a smoothwall and uses LDAP to make sure i have the right configuration set.

In smoothwall...

Network > Configuration > Port Forwards

>> Client IPs. (SMHW IPs)

>> Local IP (the ip the connection is coming in on

>> Protocol - TCP

>> Local Port (LDAP Port)

>> Target IPs (the IPs of our DCs)

>> Target Port - Preserve

>> Log - Ticked

>> IPS - Crossed

>> Enabled - Ticked

Just want to rule out our LDAP connection problems so they cant blame us but from reading other replies to this thread, i think they have some serious issues at there place.

Hay we all work in IT so know things go wrong.

We all have problems but if a company does not respond to the problems even if they cannot sort them out it is just bad.

We are told that the problem is with the data we sent them!

It was a week until they responded and we had done a manual update of email address the day before!

Not happy as I had several sad emails from patents of upset year 7's who could not login.

Something has changed as we haven't had problems before but no information from SMHW is bad.

Looking forward to finally getting this sorted.

My other big problem with SMHW is it does not work reliably in IE. That is fine in school as most users use Chrome but home users have problems connecting!

Please sort this out as well!

Sorry end of rant!

We've had this for a few years but I've found their support lacking in the last few months.

I need to investigate SSO or O365 as we are struggling with usernames which I've tried to match our AD ones but they seem really intent on not allowing me to get them to update them in bulk.

Last time I spoke to them about our issues, which seems to be the norm on here of our AD link just not working, they said they were "snowed under" with technical support requests. Still no response despite being promised call backs twice. Their customer support is seriously slow and really frustrating - don't even bother looking at seating charts or praise points, neither of which is actually working yet.
