Hi just a quick question on which DNS domain registrars people use - our LEA used to host our domain name (ourschool.org.uk) - so if we needed a subdomain we just mailed them and hoped for the best - but Nominet have now said our LEA can no longer manage DNS records apparently, so we will have to move ours over to a private provider.

We were thinking Godaddy - £7.50 a year - but I wasn't sure how many subdomains it allows (or even about the entire process tbh) I was wondering what other schools do with their external DNS?

We get ours hosted by our ISPs. So in one school SWGFL (aka RMPLC) in another EXA. That way if we need to change DNS settings it is quicker for our internal network to pick up the changes, and it makes it easier to manage having one company for both ISP and DNS.

UKREG/FASTHOSTS

They don't care about sub-domains, and if they did I would just use them as the registration and point at home DNS servers.

Never let a small 3rd Party register for you.

I use Heart Internet for my domains, mainly because I used to work for them and I know how to do everything I need with their systems but their prices are pretty good as well.

NameCheap for domains*, CloudFlare for DNS. It's less hassle when it comes to switching to a different domain registrar.

* Our sch.uk domain is with Vidahost (previously CSNewMedia) since it doesn't cost anything.

Being a college we get ours through Ja.Net network because they host our Internet connection. Dirt cheap certs and access to our own DNS portal to make changes :-)

Vidahost - free transfer, free 99year DNS management, they understand region.sch.uk domains and the whole thing was done it 24 hours.

What's not to like!
