Need recommendation for wireless router in a single classroom

My wife is a high school teacher in a district in which each student is issued a MacBook Air laptop. The school has wi-fi throughout, but the signal in my wife's classroom is chronically weak. IT folks for the district have been either unwilling or unable to solve the weak signal problem.

 

There is a hardwire connection (Ethernet) in my wife's classroom and I would like to connect a wireless router to that so the students can have Internet access in the classroom. Can someone suggest a good, reliable router for this purpose? The maximum number of students in the classroom at one time is 35, and usually 20-25.

We had the same issue so we just baught a cheap 15 pound one off amazon it was tp link me thinks

1) You could very very easily introduce something that could get the network either cronicaly hacked or inadvertantly taken down.

2) The access point could cause interference to the rest of the wireless network

 

Interfering with somone elses network is likly to get your wife into trouble.

Totally agree with twin turbo. As a support engineer of a school by introducing undocumented hardware with out the consent from your ict team is an act of work place misconduct and could land your wife in very hot water.

Her ict team will have detail documentation of the networks layout and introducing an unmanaged node could have your ict searching for many hours if it were to cause a network issue which will have a knock on affect not just to you but potentially every other user on that network.

 

I advise your wife to speak with her ict team and come to some agreement. If her ict team have said no I am sure there is a valid reason for their decision whether that is funding, compatibility or otherwise you don't mess with the network.

 

Sorry if this sounds harsh but I have been on the receiving end fault finding because a staff member taking it upon themselves. They never thought to own up as they never understood the impact of their actions.

In both my current corporate roll and prior education roll I would expect tampering to lead to severing of contract. And any damages to be checked, identified, and paid for rectification.

This isn't her problem to solve. It's her problem to report and let her tech support deal with it. If they don't fix it, take it higher until someone listens - don't get all vigilante

 

If someone added a device to my network without asking me I would be absolutely livid and I would be seeking to start disciplinary proceedings.
