Hello all,

We are a secondary using SIMs.

We would like to know if anyone has a solution to our communication issues ? We currently use Emerge and TASC Insight to update Sims.

We want to make all data collection forms electronic and where applicable write back to sims. For example :

Medical forms, photo permission, biometric permission, update of address, tel no, email etc. Insight already does some of these, but not the forms as far as I can tell.

Do you think the signatures are necessary ?, is it enough that a parent has had to logon to a portal and fill the form in ?

Regards Paul.

BETT is only a day away, I'm sure there will be plenty on offer this year on the theme of consolidation of parental communication, data collection and other such.

We want to look into electronic forms too so would be interested in what you end up using.

Does Tasc Insight send emails or texts? How do you alert parents to a new letter or document?

Thanks

It can use SMS and email for things like password communication, but, I don't believe there's anything more than that in Insight.

With parental communication we use InTouch and sims learning gateway. Both capita modules, which integrate well but also have the known problem for what capita is known for. Slow slow slow. Slg is built on sharepoint so slow and InTouch gui is frustrating at times to say the least. However staff have become use to it and oddly i think it reduces the mistakes made. as slow as it is, it is stable and reliable. Do you think this capita design model when building modules Edited by dapaulio

When you post a notice on Insight, you get the option email parents and/or students a copy of that notice. It's not quite so easy to use as Schoolcomms (our email package), for example the wildcard feature is not a simple for teachers, but it does work.

There are so many better systems than that. We use TASC and schoolcomms and its probably 20% of the price Capita charge and a far better combination of systems.

TASC are usually very good with feature requests if you give their support a ring.

We use TASC and Schoolcomms combination as well - two separate systems but both integrate well with SIMS and the support has always been good if and when required.

TASC have been good when we have made feature requests e.g. making results in a survey anonymous.

I agree capita are expensive however the sims manager got some sort of combination deal which made them cheaper. We were having tonnes of problems with SIMS performance and the rep turned up at the wrong time and receive the frustration of our SLT, ended up cutting us a deal. not sure whether the deal was a first year discount or annual discount, as we do receive on occasions rebates.

knowing what the school is like with getting best value i can not imagine them going for a more expensive option at the time

if you dont mind me asking how much do you pay for Sims, TASC and SchoolComms?

I believe its about £800 a year for TASC, and schoolcommsn if £850 I think. the pricings on their website.

We moved from SLG and it was 10s of thousands to buy from memory.

Its not actually the price, its the fact TASC and schoolcomms are far better systems in my opinion. Certainly on speed, features and ease of use.

Schoolcomms integrates with Sims attendance so you can use it for first response, the same as Keep Kids Safe. The messages inward can also be written straight back to Sims. In my opinion, all general emailing and texting could be done via Insight, but at the moment it's not quite as user friendly for wildcards, and the paper copies list. As we pay for Schoolcomms for the attendance aspect, we have continued to use it for all our communications home.

A few people have said that they use a combination of TASC Insight and SchoolComms, what does Schoolcomms do that TASC Insight doesn't?

Emailing reports directly to parents, Attendance, Mass text messaging, Mass emails.
