Papercut MF embedded questions

They will not change IP's if you set a reservation.

 

I have all of my MFPs on DHCP reservations. I find it easier to change the mac address in DHCP and reboot the MFP, then navigating the MFP screens to set the IP. This is useful for moving devices around or getting new ones. The same applies to the laser jet printers.

Shouldn't those kind of devices have static IP addresses anyway??

 

Why? We have a few servers, switches, SAN etc with static IPs but rely on DHCP for everything else. It's worked reliably thus far.

 

printer changed IP but the print server wont automatically update the IP.

 

Our other printers work fine with host names. The MFD devices were configured in Papercut by host name so I don't see why there should have been an issue. DHCP takes care of updating DNS.

To add PaperCut MF embedded which allows you to use follow me print and track copies its costed on number of MFD's, over say 3 years it probably costs about £30 a quarter depending on the manufacturer to have a machine on this which will pay for its self I think. Some manufacturers need additional things fitting to machines to enable it which can add cost but in the overall picture its nothing much.

 

Quick update..

 

We now have the iOptions interface on the Develop/Konica machines - cost was £850 for 7 devices and included additional memory for each device. The major improvement over the previous papercut interface for us is that the list of 'follow me' print jobs are listed as soon as you log in, without having to select a department.

 

Apart from a few teething troubles the machines seem ok and we're saving money. Print volume is down and the weekly reports automatically emailed to department heads seems to have helped to.

 

Seb1780 - we were quoted £327 for an embedded papercut license and this included 3 years support.

Currently being quoted around £450 for an embedded PaperCut license and 1 years maintenance...plus £760 for setup...plus £530 for the PaperCut MF server license - this is for one MFD (C368). This seems huge?! I'm also struggling to work out the iOptions bit and how that relates to the embedded client?

iOptions is simply a nicer UI and user experience (and feature set). You want iOptions running on OpenAPI v4 for the full experience.
