I have unrestricted access and can approve videos which are then available for staff to view when they are logged into youtube. The only thing which is not working is the ability to search for approved videos. Users have to know the URL to actually play the video. Can anyone confirm if this is happening in their schools?

psydii Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I'm just compiling a wishlist of improvements to YouTube. 1) Approved Videos to be discoverable for logged on users 2) Org to be able to grant approver rights to arbitary groups of users rather than only all "Classroom_Teachers" 3) Approve Videos for arbitrary Groups of users (e.g. if GAfE is aware of a "Year 11" group, then an approver can choose to approve a video for only this group, or all users, or this group and other groups) Anything else people want?
fiza Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I didnt give "Classroom_Teachers" approver rights as I as worried that unrestricted youtube access in a classroom would eventually lead to something inappropriate being shown on the board. It doesn't necessarily means teachers would be searching for inappropriate material but sometimes related videos may be inappropriate and the still from the video is visible on the screen.

I created a playlist and shared the url with a restricted user. The playlist appears but the videos do not show up. when you try to list the videos in the playlist you get "This video may be inappropriate". It doesn't tell you the name of the video so the user cant tell what it is. User can still click on it and play it but doesn't get the thumbnail or the description of the video in the list.

psydii Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Is the restricted user definately logged into YouTube? From what I have seen The T&Cs are different so being logged into GAfE does not automatically mean you are logged into YouTube.

fiza Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Contacted GAfE support they told me they only support the core products of which youtube isn't one. They pointed me towards the Google forums. I have put the question on there.

Can anyone who uses youtube restricted mode in their school please try creating a playlist with a user who does not have unrestricted access to youtube and tell me if the user can see the playlist? In theory they should be able to because the video has been approved and its in the playlist. I just cant get it work that way.

RichS Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I'd recommend doing that otherwise the server is still well aware of the route to YouTube as it'll be in the com folder. Saves bandwidth by knowing where to go anyway Clear caches on the devices you are using and you should be away! 1

I think there is always that risk, not had anything reported to me directly however if you do search the common words like s** etc, you do get some unsavory stuff, then again its not a common search term here. 1
