There's also an accident on Leeds Road A61 Wakefield which means delays on bus services between Wakefield and Leeds of around 90 minutes delay - should give an idea of delay for other road users. To add to that, Doncaster Road in Wakefield is also closed due to an accident involving a pedestrian, which means Wakefield's broken too. And exacerbates the problem with the M62.

I think today is bad driving day, ghere was an accident near to where i lived and closed the road too.

MatthewL Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 When I came on the A63/M62 to go onto the M18 around 1500 it was saying it was closed at J34 which is Eggborough. Then another sign said slip road only. Still looking quite bad according to TomTom live traffic.

sted Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 apparently it was stuffed up round where i live (it was bad on a6110 near white rose going towards leeds when i went home) but luckily i got home early enough yesterday to avoid the worst of it. Did drive over the m62 on way to work yesterday at 7:45 and it looked awful manchester bound then

Xeba37 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 I was annoyed that my journey back from Leeds to Hudd took 15 minutes longer than unusual...then I heard about the chaos and I think I was lucky. my satnav did take me a weird route, but I trusted it for once..thankfully. Driving to Leeds in the morning is taking 10 minutes longer than it did 18 months ago smart motorway, yer right...just push the problem further back up the motorway! Plus they seem to have adjusted the timing of the lights when you get off at Junction 24, hello 1 1/2 mile queues at 4:30pm

Not will be...are! I have seen the ones on the M62 flash folk when the gantries are not displaying anything (just blank not even NSL). My speedo overreads and i can happily cruise through at indicated 80 (about 75mph) but some dude going about 5 mph faster than me got flashed...probably set to 79

Cumbria Traffic News - BBC Travel We have several roads closed; local rumour has it that some won't reopen for a year or so (not confirmed); diversions according to the BBC - and I think they are right - can be 40 miles. It's sort of telling when one road closure is labelled as being only medium disruption!

Thought this bit was interesting: Once the diesel spillage had been cleared and the gulley’s had been drained by specialist cleaners, at 13:46 hours our contractors could finally assess damage caused to the road by the fire and diesel spill. It was deemed that a significant amount of damage had been caused and all 4 lanes need plaining and full resurfacing. As contractors had resources in place, plaining work commenced straight away and once completed resurfacing work started at 18:23 hours. White lining and stud replacement work was required once resurfacing of all 4 lanes had been completed. After a significant amount of work to restore the carriageway, it was confirmed by our North East Regional Control Centre that all works had been completed and the road closure was removed at 23:22 hours. Lucky to have equipment on-site!

Link 1: Testing phase to begin on M1 smart motorway - Press releases - GOV.UK Final testing is about to be carried out on a scheme to improve journeys for drivers on a 20 mile section of the M1 spanning the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. Technology tests will take place for the new smart motorway which is due to go live between junction 28 at Mansfield and junction 31 at Worksop next month. The smart motorway scheme will see the hard shoulder permanently converted to an extra lane to increase capacity and variable speed limits will also be used to keep traffic moving. Overhead electronic signs will also help to prevent queuing and keep drivers informed about the journey ahead, and emergency refuge areas will be provided at intervals in case vehicles break down. Xeba37 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) Be warned also, the smart motorway at J38-42 have some HADECS3 cameras which seem pretty snap happy (I have seen them flashing northbound literally every time I pass at the moment - not seen them go off southbound yet). Some are next to the gantries and some are just on a stand at the side of the motorway. They are on the M62 now between Huddersfield and Leeds although I have never seen these ones flash to date but apparently they are live even though I have seen folk tearing through at 90+ and not getting snapped.
