I think it's absolutely disgusting that people would rather get their mobiles out instead of confronting the culprit.

 

I'd rather they alert the Police and keep back so they don't get their head chopped off by a nutter with a machete.

Sort of right, but in this particular instance if there weren't a few have a go heroes about lord knows how many people this terrorist would have killed and injured. I agree with your OP @Nicolab and like you I have problems with the flipping iPad inserting miss-spellings. Pretty clear what you meant - not the end of the world, and certainly not something for fellow Edugeekers to make fun of. My excuse as ever is I'm dyslexic anyhow.

 

Those folk who did capture images of the incident certainly aided the investigation so it's a bit of a quandary if they did right or wrong. It takes someone pretty brave and tough to jump in when a knife is being used as a weapon.

Though it is noble to help out and try and stop the person or persons in question it would be better alerting the correct authorities as @CAM has said. In most outcomes it may worsen the situation but there are times action would work as well it just depends what happens.
