Michael Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Hello all, Just to let you know all BGFL subscribing schools are having problems today 04/12/15. The issue seems to be related to the core proxy servers hosted at the BGFL and they're working on it as we speak. As to whether or not this has anything to do with the Transparent Proxy service they're rolling out remains to be seen. No estimated time for fix unfortunately!
mariohi Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Quite interesting week: O365 yesterday, BGFL today ... what's next? Last time BGFL "upgraded" they firewall and put half Birmingham down took them 2 days to resolve it - good they have weekend for testing.
Michael Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 I'm not so sure this is firewall related or an upgrade as such. I suspect it is something to do with the Transparent Proxy service, as they have stated this is a proxy issue. All requests of course go via the proxy, hence why no one can surf right now.
MrPstv Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Its back everywhere I believe Happy days over here.
Michael Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 Yes, working fine here. Well done Link2ICT, have a pint!
Little-Miss Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 ....I need to get my number removed from the alerts. 1
Michael Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 ....I need to get my number removed from the alerts. At least you know nothing's changed in Birmingham We'll have to start calling it the December Downtime. It is a bit odd it's happened in pretty much the same time window as last year, be it a different reason! 1

Michael Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 Still it is odd, as generally speaking the reliability has been OK the past 12 months or so, once we were back in January 2015.
CHR1S Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Our phones still worked so assumed it was proxy but got loads of DNS errors, which I didnt expect to see.
Michael Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 Between 15:10 and 15:50 the connection definitely keeps on dropping and then returning back online again. I don't think we've seen the last of this, but I hope I'm wrong!
free780 Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) Janet has been up and down in yorkshire and humberside today. Related? Edited December 4, 2015 by free780
Asgard Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Janet has been getting hammered with DDOS over the last few days :-(
free780 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Again this morning. From Manchester probably malware.
Michael Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 I'm not convinced it's JANET related, most likely two separate issues. BGFL were direct with people and confirmed it was a proxy issue, which they proactively manage.
Patrick Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 It's been up and down for us, being told that it is JANET issue. It's up now but not sure how long for.
MattDLEA Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 We are With NGfL and it was dodgy Last Tuesday and Friday. Was also down for 45 mins yesterday to
stevenlong1985 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I'm semi down, some sites are working . but lots not. BBC doesn't, asda does?!
MrPstv Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 We are having issues, websites not reachable.....grrr
SBennett Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Weird. You guys are in Birmingham, I'm down in Kent and experiencing the exact same issues. BBC and various websites are not loading but a bunch of other websites are. Might be a nation wide issue?
Alis_Klar Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Seems same as last friday. Although through cached dns it seemed semi on. As we hadn't lost connectivity just a proxy server. Bgfl filtering also blocks third part dns traffic such as 8.8.8.8 so no dice there. Could actually get to bbc (404 page) via their IP address but CSS and JavaScript obviously don't load
rad Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 We are a London GfL Site and have this issue. I cant access ASDA but can get on BBC
