DalekSec Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Don't see the point in indoor cats, they have survived thousands of years outside why should they be kept inside!
LeMarchand Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Don't see the point in indoor cats, they have survived thousands of years outside why should they be kept inside! I think you'll find that they have evolved over thousands of years to enslave mankind. 1
localzuk Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Don't see the point in indoor cats, they have survived thousands of years outside why should they be kept inside! Some have illnesses such as FIV. Can't be letting them out.
DalekSec Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Some have illnesses such as FIV. Can't be letting them out. That's fair enough but I know some people who have indoor cats with nothing wrong with them!
localzuk Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 That's fair enough but I know some people who have indoor cats with nothing wrong with them! There's a bunch of reasons really: They don't want the cats hunting. They haven't spayed/neutered them and don't want them out "partying". They don't want the cat being injured/ran over. The cat doesn't actually like or want to go out (I've known one of these).

Just there are some valid reasons some people keep them in.
Garacesh Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Nyx is an indoor cat as we live practically on a main road. Also because he hadn't had his love eggs removed nor was he microchipped, so he got used to staying indoors until that was done (we got him when he was only 12 weeks old) Also there's lots of cats in our area, and many of them are stray. You can hear them at all lengths of the night fighting and skreeing at each other. Definitely doing this orange collar thing, though
Achandler Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I have two house cats, they can both go out if they want. One does go out at weekends (as long as we go out with him for a few minutes, then he'll stay out as long it isn't to windy, it isn't cold or wet, basically he is fussy as hell). My other cat though, will only go out if its warm sunny (she jsut looks out the open door if it isn't), and you leave the door open so she can come back in when she pleases, if you shut the door, then within 30 seconds she'll be queing back at it. I think its because of how they were brought up, both were rescue cats. She was found on the streets (she was missing for 2 weeks) having escaped from her previous owner (who had adopted her from a deceased relative) after only 3 weeks. So I assume she has decided, inside is best, you get food, water and its warm, going out could means your lost again! My male cat was brought up as a house cat till we adopted him and let him go out when he wants, I think he just goes out because its like going somewhere he isn't allowed to, because he doesn't go far and comes in within an hour or so unless you are out as well (gardening for example). I rarely see him leave the garden (front or back) when he actually goes out.

southhamster Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 The cat in that picture does not look amused. First rule of being cat: never look amused.
LeMarchand Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 First rule of being cat: never look amused. Why not?
jdoyle Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 The cat in that picture does not look amused. Never does. And has a sharp set of claws.... One of the others in the household is cross eyed The dog doesn't like having photos taken.... 1
HarryMonkey Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Bear in mind this is an American website, where some owners have their cat's claws removed so they can live indoors and not scratch the furniture/carpet etc.
HarryMonkey Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Saw this today on Facebook. Apparently the owners were out looking for the cat when this photo was taken. 3
Elison Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 My two cats live indoors and are happy. Thousands years ago cats were wild and prefered live outside. Now they are pets and most of them can't survive at street. There are cars, dogs, other people (who are not always pleasant), cat's deseases, etc. That is why I think that pets must live inside. Or go for a walk under the care of owner. Btw removing clows is like cutting fingers for people. It's cruel procedure. If you don't want cat scratches furniture, buy a scratching mat. There are a lot of kinds of them, so it's easy to find the one your cat will like.

Or go for a walk under the care of owner. In this country generally this is not the case. Dogs live inside but get taken for walks, and for the most part (yes, I know there are some indoor cats) cats are allowed to come and go as they please. As most cats don't walk on leads, I'm sorry but I don't like the idea of an animal that never gets to be outside even under supervision - unless of course it is the cat's choice! Duranis Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I have had cats all my life and always let them come and go as they please. The two girls I have at the moment are sisters that we rehomed. Both of them go out whenever they want but I do get them in at night as we have a lot of foxes where I live. One of them will only go out for a couple of hours then come back but the other will gladly be out all day, come home for dinner (always around 6pm) then go back out again. I must admit I am slightly conflicted about letting my cats out. Our last cat had its tail shredded by something a few years back and that wouldn't have happened if it was kept in. Also cats are a complete nightmare on local wildlife, one of my cats will sometimes bring back 2-3 birds/field mice in a day during the summer.

They are. The current terror of our garden even has a bell, but still manages to pick birds as big as wood pigeons. I would live to wring its neck, but have to make do with making its life a misery with a super soaker.
