Played in the Saturday comp last weekend, slightly different format to the usual ones....in that it was matchplay against the course, essentially the course played to par, if I shot net lower than par I would win the hole, level par was a half and over par was a loss. Was all even till the 17th & 18th when I played a couple of daft shots and lost by 2 holes :-( Enjoyed the change in format though.

Booked in for another couple of lessons though as I'm sick to death of slicing my driver.....I lose far too many shots by not being able to get the ball to go straight off the Tee!!

I've been working on this too at the range these last few weeks....

What seems to be working for me is....

-> making sure I'm stood square!

-> not taking the club behind me from address - feeling like the club is staying more out in front of me during the takeaway....

-> ensuring my left wrist stays flat at the top (not cupped!) of the back swing.

-> swinging slower!

-> feeling like my hands drop vertically before they start the downswing

-> staying 'down' through the shot (as I've a tendency to almost "jump" at the ball!)

It's definitely improving things...played 9 holes yesterday and shot 40 and lost a ball off the tee on a par 3 when I shanked one :( - also hit the bottom of the pin with a 45 yard wedge approach!

Just a quick one to those of you in the west midlands area, highly recommend Lickey Hills Golf Club, played there 3 or 4 times now and it is a fantastic course. It is a municipal course but one of the much better ones i have played. Fantastic array of different holes and a good work out on the legs!! Can't recommend it highly enough.

Is there enough golfers in Edugeek to arrange an official golf day?? :D

As with the EduBytes... if you want a golf day with Edugeek mates then try to get one together! Start small and get a core and then grow it from there :)

Finally the range time is starting to pay off.

Last nights club night went really well!

I started the club night season playing off my normal handicap of 10 and had previously been cut to 5 so I only had two shots on the front 9 which we play.

Conditions were almost perfect with little wind and very receptive greens.

Started well with a good drive down the middle and wedge to the green, 2 putts for par and things carried on like this for the whole round....par after par after par. No stupid tee shots, no 3 putts, just easy solid golf and I ended up with 9 pars and 20 points and also took the longest drive prize!

I've now been cut to 2 (cries) for the remaining weeks so I'll need to keep up this form to keep scoring big and keep myself near the top of the leaderboard for the 0-14 category....

Nice, that's awesome.

I played 9 holes last night and had a couple of chances at par, but my putting is sub-par... HAH!

Also had some... errr.. 3... nightmare holes. Two 10's and a 12! YAY BEGINNER!

I forgot to come back on the advice with my driver!!

Anyway....first things first.....end of the season got much better. Had a couple of lessons and the last couple of months have been really really promising. Striking the ball much better and although I haven't yet managed to get my driver to go straight, it is much more in control. My problem with the driver is that I'm leaving the club face open with an out to in swing and I'm simply cutting across the ball which generates the slice. I am working hard on keeping the club behind me as I come into the swing and keeping the club square on impact. One thing I've developed, is that I'm reducing the length of my swing as well, concentrating on keeping my wrists in the right position rather than letting the club go to far and my swing collapsing at the top.

Anyway, back to actual scores.......shot my best ever competition score (gross 88 for a nett 68 on a Par 69 course - Scorecard below) which brought the handicap down a bit...I also had a nett 71 which was pretty good...in buffer at least.....however, look at scorecard 2....I cannot explain what happened on the 9th!! I didn't even lose a ball!! It still got me a handicap cut though and I've finished the season on 19.3 down from 21 (I think) at the beginning of the season.

Planning on playing through the winter, got a winter pairs competition starting this sunday, so that will keep me going through the winter as we have to play in 7 out of 12 events. Can't wait for next season to start at this point!!

I've stopped playing really. Went up to Burnley Golf Club last night to look at their new swing studio and it looks pretty mint. I took one shot and the fact I hit it was a miracle! Hahahah! I will be partaking in 'Golf Thursdays' when my friend quits work and goes self employed though :D

Just playing 9 hole courses at the moment as my foot still isn't 100% after breaking it last year. Going round with one of our teachers as I'm giving him free lessons (he pays my green fees!!) and I've remodelled his swing and turned a wild slice into a nice power draw so he's happy. Was on a par 3 course last weekend where the last 3 holes are all over 200 yards and finished birdie, birdie, birdie for a gross score of 23 which won me a can of coke so really happy. I plan to winter on the short courses and then start full 18 hole courses again in the spring.

Maybe you're not staying behind the ball enough at impact which is opening yourself up.

Look at Day and Rory - just after impact how much behind their ball their head/body is...this is what I'm working on....

It's interesting to see that their weight is coming off their back foot yet they are still so far behind the ball...

Played in the first of our "winter league" rounds....essentially 2 person team betterball, have to play in 6 out of 11 rounds minimum to post a qualifying score and if you play in more than 6 then your best 6 scores count.

Played really well, as an individual I scored on 13 out of the 16 holes we scored on (2 blobs in this format is not really acceptable) and on those 13 holes I had 8 pars and 5 bogeys, so very pleased with that form. Putted well, drove the ball well and chipped well. After 9 holes, as a team, we'd scored 23 points and then 26 points after 10! But then blobs on 11 & 12 derailed us a bit and we ended up with 38 points. Still ok, but disappointing after we'd played the first 10 so well.

Tiredness?

Are the back holes harder?
