Portable Mixer

Hi,

 

Been trying to find this online but struggling.

 

Does anyone know of a decent (simple) mixer that comes in a portable case. Nothing too fancy but battery powered.

 

Someone showed us a solution recently but cant find the link to it.

But inn all seriousness, is there a specific amount of channels you need and what is going to be connected to? Behringer do some excellent kit for the money, having bought one for the last school I worked at I couldn't recommend them enough!

As above you've not really given us much to go on. Also what sort of speakers are you planing to use it with?

 

If it needs to be battery powered I expect Coomber will do something suitable. But like all their stuff it will look like a bloke called Derek made it in his shed.

Haha, so true! I despise Coomber stuff, it's overpriced and the design really hasn't changed at all in the last 20 years, same unit only Derek has stuck a USB and SD card reader in now instead of his beloved tape deck.

It must be the last company in the world where listing pipe smoker as a hobby on your C.V. is a good idea.

Erm, that DC input looks like it was installed by a drunk person, possibly as dark sheep of the Coomber family who's discovered there's more to life then wearing a cardigan.

If you can find one; a second hand (why did they stop making them??) Soundcraft Notepad might be just the thing you need. You'd have to case it yourself, and sort out batteries, but it is a very nice little mixer.

 

If it must be new, and high quality, look towards "Location Mixers" from the film world. But £££CHING!!

Good point, although the one I have sat next to me here looks okay, and has chugged along okay for the past 5 years or so with daily use as part of my home PC setup, so they can't be too bad. Maplin also had something on offer today as I walked past, that might be the kind of thing the original poster is looking for - as pointed out above, a few more details from them would be handy.

Again, if you can go 2nd hand, have a look here on BB Lists. They are a well respected site for selling audio and video kit. I've bought odd stuff through them several times.

Sorry, I started this thread and haven't managed to get back about it yet.

 

I am ploughing through the quotes we had given to us by some installation companies to see what kit they offered. We want to do it on the cheap (don't we all) but the quotes we got seemed to be West End production costs. The reason for portability is to justify the money being spent on new kit so we can move it around the school. We had a Peavey 300 CH from the ARK that blew last year so we wanted to upgrade, the speakers are still okay but from the same time period.

 

Now the quotes all say add 2 more speakers to the middle of the hall and a monitor speaker at the front. We did buy some portable PA speakers (cant remember the model but the ones with the build in amp and Wi-Fi for mikes.. battery powered too) which are a decent stop gap.

 

So we either wire up the hall to use the old speakers but have to buy an amp and add additional speakers or use the portable ones and buy powered speakers as the additional ones. The wiring would go tot he back of the hall where the portable amp would go so we can plug everything in. I was going to look at just getting a trolley and adding a DVD player to it and a amp but that's going to be heavy to move up and down the stairs.

Battery powered mixers.... not something I have come across really. Behringer do the XENYX 1002B. This can run on battery's. From the information I have read it requires 3 x 9v pp3 batterys it does also say it will only last 4hrs. Not necessarily a cheap mixer to run when you add the cost of the battery's.
