Steve21 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Good Evening All, Just wanted to say I'm really impressed with the SalamanderSoft software and support all around. We've been using it to create our users since I started here, but been digging into their blogs a bit more and we're now getting it setup to automate a lot of tasks for us, and it's spectacular what they can do if you have a bit of a read through AD User Creation User homedrive/permissions setting SIMs Photos to AD o365 License Assigning (Skype auto disabled for students etc) OneDrive Provisioning SIMs timetables to o365 Calendars Auto Email when new users created Really does a lot more than you might think! mdrabble Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I've looked at this a few times as it looks a great piece of software but sadly with my budget the way it is, I couldn't justify purchasing it at this moment in time. If and when my budget improves that is on the list of software to purchase! 1
Liam Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 It's a no brainier. I literally never need to worry about user creation. Unless they aren't on sims in which case I asked salamander to create me a quick csv that follows the same process. For its cost, it's a real time saver. We have just bought into the sims features too to create sims accounts.. I feel the pain of not having it ! 1
FN-GM Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 We use it in our schools and its great. I just wish it had some kind of GUI so I could make tweaks myself. 1
caffrey Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I really want this too to import student timetables into GAFE, sadly budget wouldn't allow it 1
Steve21 Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 You on commission Steve ? Pete haha I wish Just after such a long time using SIMs ADPS it's nice to have something that actually works without requiring daily kicks Steve
Killer_Bot Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 That sounds quite interesting. I can't see much on their site for costing though, is it one of those situations where it really depends on the number of students? Can anyone give any indication for pricing for Secondary? 1
Arthur Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) I can't see much on their site for costing though The following is copied and pasted from an e-mail. The product itself costs £999 + VAT for an annual license which includes support, upgrades, bug fixes and ensuring it is compatible with the latest version of your MIS (SIMS, Facility CMIS etc). There is also a one-off installation fee of £400 + VAT for a remote installation where we ensure that it is configured exactly to your network and requirements For us the cost was easily justified since it saves a huge amount of time. We use it in our schools and its great. I just wish it had some kind of GUI so I could make tweaks myself. They wouldn't be able to charge the annual fee if you could update it yourself each year 1
Dino Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Excellent info as I am looking at getting this and by the look of the info here worth every penny of the Licence fee

More than happy for people to tweak the config files if they want. If you break it we'll just fix it. Run salamander.host.exe /b first and it will backup the files. 1

DarrenShan Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 +1 from me, I agree that Salamander AD is a great product and their support is first class.
Marshall_IT Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Big +1 for me too. It really is the best money I've spent. I've not idea how I lived before this. Those know at the door, "can we have a username for this new student?" Yes of course, I had an email with it this morning.
rpwillis Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I didn't know that! Do you have a guide that shows what does what please? And that's where we fall down - we haven't got that documentation. It is on the to do list, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Having said that, if you look at the config files you can figure most of it out.

bodminman Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Do they still do the link utility between PASS and iSAMS?
chrisgoodrich Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 We are in the process of purchasing SLG which has to be used with SIMS ADPS i believe. Having looked at Salamandersoft do I need this as well?
mdrabble Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I don't support I could trial it free for a year haha
Killer_Bot Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I don't support I could trial it free for a year haha Haha That's a bit cheeky mdrabble. On a serious note; I'm happy to trial for 11 months and post back my thoughts........
mullet_man Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I'd like to also recommend this, great support as well.
