I contacted Salamander and now have this and a few other tweaks implemented. We've also got our SIMS photos syncing with O365.

 

Can't praise Stuart and Gareth enough for their hard work in getting everything we needed in place and so quickly and efficiently.

It does say on their website it's compatible with Google.

That's both of our systems sorted. Although I will have to ask higher up on the DPA with Google. Office 365 seems to be a bit more private.

A lot of our stuff are just udf's in sims. Sims photo true or false. Gives staff the option then

That's why I've held off putting the photos into Google. Yes, some of the students have set bizarre images, but since the profile photo is visible on every outgoing email and numerous other places where people authenticate via Google, I had some concerns about the privacy. I decided it wasn't worth the a) risk, b) time to decide if it was actually a risk, so left it.

@enjay Exactly what I was thinking, AFAIK O365 only uses the images internally and not externally so we are fine there.

We've just started adding our ITT (Trainee) teachers to SIMS for the simple reason of automating their AD and Google accounts. Obviously I can't issue them a contract, but I've issued them a Service Agreement with the two mandatory fields set to "Do not include in statutory reporting" and the SWR tickbox

 

 

Just looking at this now but where do you set the do not include in statutory reporting and the SWR box?

 

Am I missing something? Permission to do so maybe? I'm the system manager so I may need to just tweak permission. Returns manager?

It's in Add New Service Agreement. "Service Type" is set to "Not for Statutory Return" and Add Role > Role is "Do not include in Statutory Returns".

 

SWR is a tickbox under Basic Details > "Elegible for SWR".

Kris is the chap I usually deal with, but Stuart and Gareth have done cracking jobs in the past too. Literally you make a request over email and within an hour you usually get a response to either a) login to look at your request or b) arrange a time that day when they can take a look.

 

I haven't ventured into the world of using Salamander for Google just yet. To be honest, I have been using GADS and not totally sure what is on offer. Anything that can be automated is spot on though!

Salamander doesn't have to sync directly with your Google (although it can if you want it to...), instead it would sync lots of data into your AD which you then push to Google with GADS. Things like class groups, so you can have an email distribution list for each teaching group.

We have a whole mixture of stuff with Salamander. This year we had them create all our Google Classroom classes for our teachers and students. I'm always keeping an eye on their blog to see what else they release.

We don't create the Classrooms themselves, as some teachers like to name them "Year 10 English" rather than "10xy/En2", but we do have Salamander creating the email groups (and making some extra changes needed for groups to work with Google Classroom) so the teachers can quickly invite the whole class.

 

One of our more popular links we have is putting everyone's timetable into their calendar. Slight word of warning on this though - think about how far into the future you want it syncing. We had it going 12 weeks ahead so staff could book meetings and things, but this meant students found out their September timetable before the end of Term 6, which prompted a few complaints from parents who aren't happy with the teacher or classmate selection...

Same here. They have a remote logon to our server, so just connect when convenient for them and make the change.

Yes, already have them syncing as much as possible into AD. Just haven't really looked into what they off on the Google side of things. We have our email with O365 and have distribution groups created for classes.
