john Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 When will people learn plaspugs are not suitable for holding a rack to the wall, I've seen too many like that and it doesnt' take much to pull them off. Rawlbolts are where its at on a decent solid wall, if its a stud wall batten between the two studs and then screw that to the batton with decent bitey screws.

Sold it to the primary at a greatly reduced rate. It'll have all the switches & panels in the top and means I can shift the server from the top of my desk into the bottom of it Incidentally, this thing collapsing missed the server by a matter of 2 inches - it was saved by a Stone PC which got in the way. Thumbs up to Stone though, it didn't bat an eyelid and it's still working, despite having been impaled by the cabinet's glass. Besides which not happy about trying to wallmount anything else
synaesthesia Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 First stage complete Cabinet in place after spending nearly 2 hours removing god knows how much old crap! 50 odd VHS tapes, 3 boxes full of headphones with "Manufactured in the United Kingdom 1984" printed on them, Lego robotics set who's name made me go OMG I REMEMBER THOSE AT SCHOOL yet I've now entirely forgotten and enough software titled "Compatible with Windows 3.1, Macintosh and Acorn" to fill a small suitcase. Big turn-off next week for me to actually get it all in the cab 1

mthomas08 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Apart of me wishes this was in a classroom and had collapsed on to a Student desk (obviously with no kids) but it would highlight the issue of sorting all that crap out. Can't stress how many times I've fixed health and safety hazards here that were caused by previous IT Staff or by teachers deciding to move their desk without doing it through us. It takes one serious incident for the School to think it's time to sort the mess out.

Once schools changed to their own dedicated 100meg link, the kit was removed but we were left with 20 odd fibre cables just bundled up now. All done 2 hour deadline and a lovely collection of random cables, lots of cabling that Openreach could never be bothered to remove despite being redundant and we have a result! Gatt Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 @Gatt Why was it actually there in the first place The room had been trialed with Thin Clients and we were having issues with the Wyse terminals dropping off the network I'd been trying suss out what was actually wrong, had gone on leave (Easter I think..) and when I came back - The RDS Server was now upon the cabinet.. They {who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty} thought that it would be quicker if it was in the same room.. Needless to say I wasn't overly impressed, and it didn't make a blind bit of difference!
