witch Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 We have a Meru network and it seems that the 5 WAPs connected to the same PoE switch are not working. The switch power light is on, the uplink lights are flashing but there are no other lights on the connections. Is there anything else I can do? I can't swap any of the working WAPs as they are bolted to the wall.

They probably would lend me one but when would that be? I am going to fetch a PoE from somewhere else and connect it to a WAP to see if the lights come on. If they do, then the WAP is OK I don't know what a midspan is anyway

A midspan is clever POE injector for more than one connection. things run conventional switch -> ethernet cable -> POE midspan -> ethernet connection out to POE device. They are good for telephone systems and for some devices that take more POE than a normal switch can give or if you have non POE switches and require lots of POE devices, or, as POE switches tend to be phyically bigger, not enough room. I have 'value range' HP switches which don't do POE and I also have very shallow cabinets that won't take the depth of a POE switch, so a midspan is the way forwards for me looking to use POE for telephones in the next 12 months!

Well I'm gonna say it anyway Sometimes there is a huge advantage in being the only person in the whole school who does what I do

I've had it previously where I had enabled this function and forgot to save the config (Doh!), and then found the switches had been restarted for some reason, effectively losing my changes. Our 3Com PoE switches have a little grey button on the front of the device that allows you to cycle through the state of connectivity. One of this shows if power is being requested and functioning through the ports by displaying a solid green light. Hope some of that is of use [emoji4] Marc

Hope some of that is of use [emoji4] Marc Don't think that is it as the controller has been restarted before and not had a problem - but I will check. Couldn't get that light to come on at all
ITGURU Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Check firmware maybe? I had a new POE switch powering 4 APs and after a period of time it would just stop powering the APs. If I cold reset the switch they would come back to life for a while. After receiving a new firmware update the issue never returned and been powered ok for months.
