Anyone having any issues with KMS activation of Windows 10?

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 setup with KMS that is happily servicing Windows 7, 8 and Office KMS activations currently. I read somewhere that in order to activate Windows 10 you need to make sure update KB3058168 is installed on the KMS host server, which it is!

However when ever I run

cscript slmg.vbs /ato

on any Windows 10 Education PC is comes up with the following:

Error: 0xC004F074 The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Log for additional information.

Which is weird as the Windows 7 and 8 PC's activate fine!

On the KMS host I get this in the KMS log:

An activation request has been processed.

Info:

0xC004F042,25,WIN10-TEST.coombeshead.com,bc69bd8b-4053-4e03-b0fd-6668ffe66b78,2015/08/10 12:05,0,5,0,e0c42288-980c-4788-a014-c080d2e1926e

Any ideas?

Cheers...

Neil

Where did you get your KMS keys from as none are listed on our volume licensing login.

We are using the Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacentre KMS key that is located on the VLSC site under:

View Relationship Summary

Click on current active agreement number

Click on Product Keys

It should then be listed under there.

Do you not need to wait for 25 devices to request activation before it will authorise?

Pete

We hit that limit ages ago with all our Windows 7 and 8 machines. Add a new one of those to the network and they activate straight away. Didn't think it was a 25 PC limit per OS?

We used "2012r2 with windows 10" kms key, updated our existing server 2012 r2 key to this one, then did slmgr.vbs /act on server to activate server. Didnt have to wait for 25 computer limit again.

Was this an extra key on your VLSC? Because I'm thinking it is a mismatch between the KMS keys I'm using.

I just applied the Windows Srv 2012R2 DataCtr/Std KMS for Windows 10 key using /ipk on the KMS server, and Windows 10 activated straight away as a first client.

Guessing the 25 limit cover any workstations so if got 25 windows 7 clients active then it will still activate 1 Windows 10 client.

I think that's the problem then. Checked VLSC and I don't have any "Server with Windows 10" KMS key listed. Going to have to contact MS I think.

Anyone know the UK number for Microsoft volume licensing?

Having contacted my Reseller as I only had MAK keys initially listed, I was given the following details which I called to get them and showed up instantly.

You need to call 0800 917 9016 and pick option 4, ask them to apply the KMS keys and they will.

You will need your agreement number.

Awesome. Just rang them up and they will sort within 5 minutes. Thanks for that.

Sorry for bringing up an old-ish thread!

We currently have a 2008R2 server using a 2012 R2 key which allows us to activate our Win 8.x, Win 7 etc clients with no problems at all. The Office 2013 KMS key / host is also installed on the same machine.

Am I right in thinking if I ring up MS to get this key added on to our account (assuming we're in the same boat as it's not there for us either); that we replace the existing 2012 R2 key with the 2012 R2 Key for Windows 10 and it should allow us to activate our Win 10 clients?

Just wanted to be 100% before replacing any keys :)

Thanks guys!

Yes that is correct. MS added the correct key to VLSC whilst on the phone.

So am I right in thinking you're using your 2008 R2 server for KMS to license Windows 10 devices?

I was under the impression KB3058168 needed to be installed and was only available for Windows 2012 R2 and Windows 8 devices?

If you're looking at the keys from the VLSC site, then I found the KMS host key under a different location to the rest of my licenses.

rather then under Downloads and Keys, It was under Licenses>>>Relationship Summary>>>>Click your agreement number>>>>Product Keys>>>>Windows Srv 2012R2 DataCtr/Std KMS for Windows 10
