dblight Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Just downloaded and installed Windows 10 Education. Surprised to see the build settings show up with the same express settings as Pro and Home. Obviously selecting Express Settings and not customise settings will lead to a lot of your data being sent to MS. Hoping this is configurable via SCCM task sequence as I am sure none of us want our data sent!
Wubbalubbadub Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Apart from it having the word "education" instead of pro I'm not sure there is much difference!
Ephelyon Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 It basically seems to be functionally identical to Enterprise, though I've heard they're including some APIs which will make it easier for devs to code up Impero-style features in the future. As for the Express settings, I think Education is designed to be used by teaching staff at home as well as in school, hence the "easy upgrade from Home to Education", so that's probably what that bit's for. They know school admins will turn it off for image builds anyway. Does anyone have a KMS key for Windows 10 Education yet? I can only see a 250-limit MAK key in the VLSC so far...

A lot of people seem to be having issues with VLSC not showing keys. We must be one of the lucky ones with KMS and MAK showing for a few days now. Hopefully they will sort it all out soon!
Ephelyon Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Does anyone know how to get rid of the annoying built-in app shortcuts when using a redirected Start Menu?
dblight Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 (edited) Seen this posted earlier http://www.edugeek.net/showpost.php?p=1349451 maybe a GPO setting? Haven't had chance to look through them yet Edited August 2, 2015 by dblight
Wubbalubbadub Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Where are people even getting the download for win 10 education?

robjduk Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 I currently only have mak codes for education and pro. Enterprise is there but no licence keys. Hoping KMS will appear over the summer so I can get playing.
robjduk Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Just found this.... Compare Windows 10 Editions So then no real difference other than the long term service plan but can someone tell me why you would want to upgrade from Home to Education? Is it so you can offer staff Direct Access and workfolders?

Is it so you can offer staff Direct Access and workfolders? How would the licensing work on that? Giving a member of staff An ISO of education to upgrade their own device? Maybe something will be changing later on?
DrCheese Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 If I'm licensed for both Enterprise & Education, why would I use either version?
JRowley Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I've been saying this for a while, but in my view the reason has nothing to do with those of us using EES and it's likely a pricing thing for certified educational institutions who don't go down that route and do licensing differently.
dblight Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Haven't found a way of getting rid of this yet. Quite annoying!
AlexB Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Haven't found a way of getting rid of this yet. Quite annoying! I haven't tried myself as I am waiting to KMS activate, but have to activated? In previous windows you'd get the text down there until you activated.

It still showing even when activated.

JRowley Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Just to say for those of you waiting for a KMS key, this may apply to some of you depending on your agreement: I am an Open Customer and do not see my KMS (Key Management Service) key displayed on VLSC. How can I get it? KMS keys are no longer pre-assigned to Open agreements as use of MAK (Multiple Activation Key) keys is the preferred method for activation. If you are an Open Customer and need a KMS key, please request one by either calling the PA Call Center or emailing KMSADD with your business need.
AlexB Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Just to say for those of you waiting for a KMS key, this may apply to some of you depending on your agreement: Yeah, I tried calling this morning to ask for a Windows Server 2012 R2 KMS and a Windows 10 Enterprise MAK. They managed to send me a Windows 10 Pro MAK (which I could already get) Decided to wait for US to wake up and try calling again
OverWorked Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 There's this post from @Arthur http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-10/153717-microsoft-announces-windows-10-editions-3.html#post1339834 According that that, there's virtually no difference between the Edu and Ent editions apart from the Long Term Service Branch (LTSB), which I think means that updates are managed and deployed via WSUS and not automatically. Understanding the Long Term Servicing Branch and Current Branch in Windows 10 | Windows 10 content from Windows IT Pro I've just had a quick look at Ent and Edu editions. The main deference that I can see is the lack of unnecessary bumf on the Start Screen on the Enterprise Edition. The Education Edition has XBox, News, Money etc., whereas the Enterprise Edition none of that. Both Education and enterprise Editions have "Start Screen Control with Group Policy", though I've yet to look into that. Given the amount of inappropriate content that some Bing app tiles have shown recently (the Health app showing "10 most dangerous sex positions"), I would choose any version of Windows that didn't have these by default. Though I see the Health and Food apps (the two biggest offenders) are no longer installed by default. I would choose Enterprise Edition for a school. 1
OverWorked Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 There's this post from @Arthur ... which I think means that updates are managed and deployed via WSUS and not automatically. I was wrong about that - both editions can have updates managed by WSUS.
JRowley Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) I was wrong about that - both editions can have updates managed by WSUS. It's specifically the LTSB, which allows you to set your installs to receive a different set of updates. I believe this means you will generally only receive larger rollups and you have the option to delay them, where as typically you will receive updates individually to be installed immediately. Of course as you say this can still be managed by WSUS/SCCM. A colleague of mine has mentioned that they may release specific educational apps/content/features to the educational version in the future, which is a good point when considering Enterprise vs Education. DGardiner Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 my VLSC is missing downloads for a lot of stuff, windows 8 is gone and no 10
