New IT Suite

Hi guys,

 

Can people give me their thoughts on spec for a new set of desktops for a primary school IT Suite - current tasks go anywhere from paint - coding - video editing. We are wanting them to last 5years minimum

 

Any thoughts appreciated :-)

Five years isn't too difficult with modern kit, so long as it's looked after. Would there be any upgrades to them possible in that time?

 

If not, try to spec i5 or i7 CPUs (or equivalent AMD, their APUs are decent for the price and may suit video editing better), at least 8GB RAM, and a decent sized SSD. Most resellers should be able to spec you up some good value kit at that spec. Get a good long warranty (three years should be straightforward). Then, make sure you get some big, decent monitors to go with them. I usually spec 22" BenQ 1080p models - not expensive at all and the screen area really helps. Our oldest ones are now five years old and going well.

I've just purched 60 x Intel NUC 5i5RYK

 

120gb MSATA 8GB RAM

 

Mini PC Intel® NUC Kit NUC5i5RYK

 

We have about 20 of them so far and just cannot fault them. Around about 4 seconds boot and 5 second logon.

60 units worked out about 395 per unit with monit keyboard and mouse.

Our new kit in the IT suite at my junior school is all Lenovo - 23inch monitors with dinky little i5 pcs that slot into the back. Better than an all-in-one IMHO and a lovely bit of kit

We've bought a suite of Viglen Genie Ultra AIO PCs to replace a suite this summer. i3 4th gen, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, 22" monitor, Windows license, 5 year NBD OSW.

 

Got some quotes from the usual people and Viglen were the best again.
