Thanks Guys again :) Just spoke to the deputy and with all your comments it's been decided that staff him areas are a bit to large. He wants the school to be down to around 15GB Max per member of staff and 1GB for students. WOOOOO!

We've got one member staff in Music on about 170GB and then our next biggest is 130GB. Most staff are less than 5GB.

We are not short of space and backups are going through so I don't have much of a problem with it. The music member of staff is one of these when he creates something he saves about every 5 minutes incase he 'looses something'

Staff are on 20GB limits while students are on 4GB. I had to turn quotas on after the backups started running through the morning and discovering a student home folder with 110GB used; it contained the most comprehensive and meticulously organized collection of anime I have ever seen.

Staff are on 300MB here and students are on 50MB (primary school). There are a lot of shared areas for both staff and students where they are supposed to store work. I have 2 staff members that are maxed out on storage space that I have offered to help move data around and clean up but had no response from so they will just have to work around it. Had 1 other staff member who maxed out their area and I increased it for them as they had a valid need (unlike the others that just have a ton of photos and stuff that should be in the shared areas).

I need to clear/archive a load of really old data and also come up with a solution to add a bit more storage as we are getting fairly full now. Problem I have with that is that nobody wants to go through the list of files or sit with me for 30 mins to let me know what can go and what needs to stay. Also our main backup is done offsite and we pay for X amount storage space which I don't want to increase too much as its expensive. So adding more storage would mean also having to add in a whole new backup system for the data that goes on it.

Staff have 10GB quotas, students have 1GB. These were upped from 6GB and 500MB with new servers going in last year. I'm happy to up the kids ones for kids in Year 11 and the sixth form as it tends to be ICT projects that fill the space. Staff very rarely come near their threshold, and when they do it's because of things that shouldn't be in there - video, photos, faculty stuff etc that should be in our shared directories.

**Looks over at the 70TB SAN** ::shrugs::

"Enough so they don't run out of space."

Right now only 2Tb allocated for Staff and 2TB allocated for Students. We did nearly run out, so I turned de-dupe on (Windows 2012R2). We now have roughly 650GB free on each.

However certain heavy use subjects store their work on shared drives, in effect increasing the space allocated to students to 6TB. We have 1500 students.
