Whats the difference between Edu and Enterprise streams? I was planning on going Enterprise since that's what (I assume) EES is likely to give us. Looking at the table the only key thing is LTSB... what's that?

You can tell I've kept up with W10 releases so far...

EES will include the Education version as well.

LTSB means updates will be like they are now with service packs every so often and CB means there will be more updates more often. They are saying LTSB will be major updates every year or so with little security ones in between and CB will be updates every couple of weeks.

So why would anyone use the education version?

I suppose it might make patching/new features easier...

So I suppose the decision is do we live life on the bleeding edge or do yearly updates!

That's what I was thinking too. Why not simply install the Enterprise edition and stay on the Current Branch for Business (i.e. don't bother switching to the LTSB)?

Depends on what they give us - MS may decide not to give those on an EES agreement Enterprise

They have to. EEES includes SA. Enterprise is only available to SA customers.

I reckon we'll get both editions.

This is what I'm expecting. I suppose the educational version is there for other forms of licensing, whereby you can get the educational version at a reduced rate if you are an educational institute instead of buying enterprise at full price. That's likely the reason for it, nothing to do with the EES model.

Building a Windows 10 Reference Image using MDT 2013 Update 1

With only a day to the release of Windows 10 it about time for a quick guide on building the perfect Windows 10 reference image. MDT 2013 Update 1 is not yet released so in this guide I’m using the MDT 2013 Update 1 Preview, together with some updated scripts from the MDT product team.

Software Requirements

MDT 2013 Update 1 Preview can be installed either on a file server, or on your own laptop, but in this scenario I use a file server named MDT01. MDT 2013 Update 1 Preview requires Windows ADK 10, and I recommend to also download the various Visual C++ runtimes to include them in your reference image.

In this guide I also assume that you have a local WSUS server in your network, to which you have approved Windows 10 updates, Feature Packs (to get Microsoft .NET Framework updates) and Developer Tools, Runtimes and Redistributables / Visual Studio* (to get updates to Visual C++ runtimes).

Note: Having a local WSUS server is useful for any type of deployment but in the case of Windows 10 it’s almost a must since currently Windows 10 cannot be allowed to connect to Internet, or the Sysprep process will fail (known issue).

I'm really surprised at how quick people are looking to start building a Windows 10 Image, surely you should wait for any patches, test, trial it etc etc

We won't be moving to Windows 10 for at least a year or 2!

Think people would like a change. I certainly would!

Stability is too important.

I agree. At the very least I would wait until October when the equivalent of the first service pack is out and the majority of the bugs have been fixed.

On the other hand, waiting two years before upgrading is a bit excessive especially since Windows 10 is more secure than Windows 7. Protecting the school network from malware and other threats is important too.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but the Win 10 KMS and MAK keys are on VLSC now.

Seem to have Education and Enterprise LTSB. Doesn't seem to be an option for Enterprise if we don't want to be on the LTSB.

As I posted in the other thread KMS seems to have disappeared now, but MAK is still there for me.

But use at own risk since I found it in The Register's comments section and haven't tried it myself.

I can confirm it works. I tried it at home last night. :)

I agree wait for the first service packs, niggles to be sorted which will be discovered but waiting 1 to 2 years isn't excessive.

Have people ran a Windows 10 pilot at the schools for staff and students, how much testing has been done? Driver support for Windows 10 looks quite hit and miss atm

Okay....let me rephrase that....bugs\patches\updates etc etc etc to be fixed! far too many people jumping on the Windows 10 ship already.
