simpsonj Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Just seems a shame that, realistically, most schools won't be able to purchase this kind of equipment due to the nature of the site, and the nature of how schools purchase things, when schools could benefit the most from the kit they're selling. Alright, we don't need a stuffed bird in glass, but I know our school would benefit hugely from some of the Food/RMT/PE and ICT equipment that they're selling...
Ketlane Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Went to a school auction a few years back; without much of a catalogue and without knowing what the bidding would be like our Bursar kindly gave us a top limit and let us spend where it seemed to be best value. Worked well: we bought kit that we were planning to get in the future but paid far less than list price. The sad bit was that all the sports trophies and the honours boards were up for sale too - and presumably with very little intrinsic value but lots of sentimental value. I spoke to the auctioneer and he decided to withdraw them from the sale and then offer to the former pupils' organisation for, I think, a nominal price.

There's one on eBay for £130! The server rack is currently at £550 with <5 mins to go I think people are getting a serious case of Auction Fever

Those laptops are worth half what they're going for. Why do these people not just go see ICT Direct and get something that hasn't been brutally thrown around, abused, had half a ton of digestives lodged between the keys AND has a decent warranty to boot, for half the price?

One of our art bods clocked that the iMacs were not listed correctly in the PDF catelogue, so was interested for a while but they were already at £400 by last night so no chance.

Or if they did, they gave out the pin before selling it. I can't imagine Epson will entertain unlocking it with out an original proof of purchase!

If you had the page open when the bidding ended you could see the prices. What were you interested in? I watched quite a lot of it go. The Dell laptops were going for £140-160 (for the higher spec) and £110-130 (for the lower spec)

TUGs, fire engine, 40ft tanker. Also spied in there the baggage X-Ray machines and some walk-through metal detectors.. Could do with those
