Last day in education!

Well it's my last day at work in the school today, I'm both sad (genuinely) and releaved. The only real reason I'm leaving is because of "single status" our pay review that I know is still happening in England, essentially I was screwed over by it and frankly was too insulted to appeal when I knew I could earn more by moving employer.

 

There's always ups and downs when working in schools but I have to admit it's been one of the best jobs I've had (and I've only had 3!).

 

I'll continue to post here of course, this site is invaluable, as are the people posting on it - seeing as most of you are slightly unhinged

Yeah been a lot of good will towards me leaving *in general* there's always a few who get a bit childish but most of the staff are genuinely happy. I'm moving to the NHS and taking a serious step up the IT career ladder - only applied for the job for interview experience and never in a million years expected to be offered it

Like you... I had a love hate relationship as a NM for 10 years. I loved the job but hated the bull$h1t and low pay.

seriously, although i don't know your circumstances i think you've made

the right career decision. There are plenty of rewarding careers out there.

And as you say sometimes they only way to move up is to move out...

 

NHS is as good an employer as anyone. good luck

Well I must admit when I walked out of the school tonight I felt everything lift off my shoulders, such relief! I just wish I could get stuck into that great big bottle of JD that I have in the kitchen, but sadly my car is in for a service tomorrow at 8am, so no rest or alcohol for me

life after education so far - given the tools to do the job, given the workspace I need, given the training I need and working with skillful, enthusiastic and HAPPY I.T. staff.

 

What a turn around, utterly loving it. I'm even based in a brand new office and about 10 miles from my boss - who told me today that he's call me now and then but would rarely see me unless I had a problem I wanted to talk to him face to face about..

 

Utterly magic I'm on two certificated training courses now, starting next year

Enjoyed my first day of freedom at last even though I don't officially finish till the 31st. What a joy it was..... No calls or emails being able to have a lie in and not worry and then spend a quite day with my girlfriend. What a joy it is to be free.........
