I want one, but i was not going to pre-order without seeing them first, and they went and sold out within a few minutes, so going to wait until i can just walk into an Apple Store and buy one. Annoying as i put aside £1000 since christmas for it and i just want to buy it

I like the idea of the iWatch, there are some cool ideas and some that could board on the side of stroking (sending your heath beet seem creepy to me). The one big draw back is the price, £300 for something that looks like the cheap £5 watches that stores sell in city centres and then the next ones is £500 up.

 

Would I like one? Yes be cool to have.

 

Will I ever buy one? No, if I want to know the time that what my smart phone is of and *audio gasp* my watch is for and I'm going to guess I can find apps that will do the same functions.

They don't look like that in the flesh, when i saw them in the Apple Store what i noticed most was how much better they look in real life, online videos and images just don't do them justice.

I have a Pebble Steel, the battery lasts about a week and it annoys me that I have to charge it even then.

 

So no, I won't buy an Apple/Android Watch until they have batteries that can at least match the Pebble*!

 

* before anyone says it, I know the reason the Pebble lasts so much longer is because it's far less powerful and has an e-ink display, that's not my point

 

EDIT: I'm not keen on the look of the Apple Watch either, quite similar to Pebble Time (though not as cheap looking) which is disappointing because I'd have loved a Pebble Time. The Pebble Steel is the nicest looking smartwatch IMO, followed by the Moto 360. Most others look like toys IMO...

I do like them to be honest its just the price that really puts me off, I don't really like the sport version of them the normal watch version is nice and as for the Carat gold ones their just ridiculous!!

I like the idea of it replacing my mobile but already argued with one person. Convo kind of went like this:

 

"I'm getting one"

 

Me "So you don't have to carry your mobile with you all day? makes sense"

 

"No I need that too, bigger screen, better to text and do emails/internet"

 

Me "Isnt the point of it to not carry a mobile all day? given I've not look at what it can do.."

 

"I just want it, looks nice"

To be fair, I don't think they're supposed to replace your phone - texting/emailing/browsing the web/calling - all of these are horrible on a tiny screen! Can't speak for Apple/Android, but with my Pebble it acts as an augmentation of my phone - I can see at a glance who has text me, read the text if I want and send a canned reply if necessary. I can see who's calling me and reject/answer the call without getting my phone out. I can check when the next bus will be along, get my Google auth codes, or trigger "something" to happen on my phone (Tasker integration is great with Pebble)

 

I certainly don't see it as a replacement to my phone; there's a hell of a lot I do with my phone I'd hate to do on a tiny screen on my wrist, but it's a convenience for sure.

 

I've also got to say, as watches go, they really aren't expensive (Pebble/Android). Apple of course are charging their usual premium but they're still not astronomical for a "designer" watch - although a traditional watch in the same price bracket would last you a hell of a lot longer!

 

Maybe it's because it was "only" £150, but to be honest I'd be quite happy just using my Pebble as a watch, I think it looks really nice!

I like the Razer Nabu, but purely because of their selling point - they want to take the focus away from mobile phones and handheld devices because it ruins social interaction if you're constantly have your phone out. I'd much rather have a small wristband that tells me the time and then discreetly tells me any notifications I have.

 

I doubt Apple really care about that though, the Apple Watch is just another 'thing' by Apple that millions will flock to like seagulls because it's a new 'thing'.

I find it quite amusing that for years folk have criticized Apple for being all form over function but now they're selling a device that, to be fair, is at least as much about the form as the function and they've produced that ugly* thing!

To me a watch is something to tell the time, date and to look good on my wrist, I don't want to be able to read my emails. I would rather spend 1K+ on a nice Longines that looks good on my wrist and wont keel over and die if it gets wet. One of the blokes at work has the Samsung smart watch and if gets a phone call then reaches for his phone to answer it so its not on loudspeaker. Smart watches have their place but i'm personally yet to see the benefits.

See I thought that too! However a friend of mine pointed out that there are many many rich people who would happily spend thousands of pounds on a Rolex.

 

With the Gold watch Apple aren't targetting Smartphone users who want a wearable. They're targeting the High-end watch market. All of a sudden that £10,000 or whatever it is makes a lot of sense.

 

 

That said, even though I'd like one of them I'm not going to be able to afford one any time soon, and I'd forget to charge it; my mechanical wristwatch ran out of battery two weeks ago, still haven't gotten around to getting a new battery for it!

The bluetooth on my LG G Watch has quite a distance. My phone can sit in my room(back of house) and I can still be connected outside the front door.

 

Id never get an Apple watch mainly because im an Android guy, I love my watch. does everything I want.

Since the Apple Watch itself costs a minimum £300, and it requires at least an iPhone 5, I can't see myself ever buying one, the cost is huge simply to save a few seconds getting my phone out of my pocket.

I have had this discussion with a few mates and colleagues lately, many of whom are in the market for one it seems, but waiting to see what it is like first, so someone needs to take the plunge.

 

I have read a couple of reviews and the non-fanboi/payrolled ones seem to be lukewarm.

 

I am not going to get one, despite just upgrading to an iphone 6+, its just not something I need, it is cool as a device from what I can see, but I just don't want to spend a wad of cash on it, largely also because I don't want to pay for another gadget £300+ and also I have a fully working Police watch that I had off my son for my first father's day which has more meaning

 

It tells the time fine and the date my current watch, which I am happy with.

I kind of expected it, maybe one day when the tech develops just like the Smart Phones have done. From what was a fancy phone has become my life, email, internet, twitter, sports and occasional break.com APP videos to make me laugh. Still use my PC/iPad or laptop to do the bigger stuff.

 

I just found it funny how I got the 3rd degree of why it's so important to own one and how much of a difference it will make.. to finally get the admission why it's wanted.

 

Will do what I always do, wait till the next model or two perhaps three... before I purchase one. iPhone 4S was my first ever smart phone.. I'm so not down with the kids these days.

We're starting to be concerned about students having these in exam conditions. Already obviously students need to ensure they do not have phone with them, now: everyone remove your watch and leave with invigilator, just in case its a smart watch.

Found a Sport one for sale in Manchester for £410 so going to collect after work , YEY. So i have spare change from that £1000 now. But I'm young(isn) still, no commitments, single, no kids, so whats £1000 on a watch? Weeks income pre-tax.

They're expensive gimmicks. I had an Android LG G Watch R and though it looked nice and I enjoyed changing the face all it eventually did was become a nuisance, vibrate when a notification comes in, battery had to be charged every night and it was big and clunky unlike my Armarni Watch I have on now that tells me the time, date and weather, doesn't require a battery at all and is slimmer than my smart watch.

I also had a Moto 360 and a Pebble Steel both exactly the same although the Pebble Steel was nicer as it had better battery life although then less features and no colour display.

 

It's just a lot of money to spend just to save a second and pulling out your phone from your pocket.

 

What I think the market needs now is a device that can do all, a phone that can be a tablet and a full fledged computer (maybe laser keyboard and separate OS install like Windows) keep it all on one device, slims down the amount of carp you need to carry.

It is possible and I'd much rather buy this kind of device than adding more to worry about, technology is supposed to simplify your life and experience not make it more awkward with multiple devices and charging multiple devices etc....

An Intel Atom phone that now runs android with 4GB RAM 128GB Storage would be more than capable of doing everything in one device.... I may have a business plan here, watch this space
