Had a "discussion" with our LA today who insisted that SIMS doesn't work with UAC turned on and wouldn't help us with a problem (completely unrelated to UAC) until it was turned off.

I know that this is nonsense as it has been working for years with no issues, but is there any official documentation I can wave at them.

Perhaps @PhilNeal could help *smiley face*

Personally switching UAC off is rubbish, if it was an issue, right click, run as administrator. More then likely its a cache copy of a file in the virtual store if it is a "UAC" problem.

Firewalls, not so much, Windows Firewall is ok, its the blasted AV firewalls that are the issue, they vary so much, I've know one particular AV firewall to still be active even when you've switched it off, you have to physically uninstall the damn thing!! I've even had it reinstall it when an update came out. So yer, I think it's reasonable to ask to try disabling\removing client side firewall when diag'ing a connectivity problem or even a performance problem. So long as its only temporary!

Can't offer documentation, but can add to the voices above - we've had no issues with SIMS with UAC turned on, been using it like that for five years now.

Issue resolved. Thanks again to @PhilNeal for his response. :)

I guess someone got a 'kickin' :p

We have it on prompt, so the only times they get a prompt is during an upgrade (yes SOLUS 2 here!) so it pops up 3 times and they have to click yes. Otherwise, no issues. They are generally local admins though.

I know the Symantec firewall / network threat stuff is a killer. I've had it totally wreck an SQL server connectivity, because it wiped out the network interface somehow. In the end, we had to return to a snapshot and reinstall symantec. I never solved, it, but i did read up and find that sometimes, you have to remove and reinstall the network card after removing Symantec. That's a total killer app.
