NB9457 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I'm after some cheapish bits to build a small office network for my uncle, he's lost all his data a few times and they're having to share files using email/pen drives which is hassle, so I've offered to try and help him build a small network in his office. Could do with the following: -Server with 4GB+ and Dual core+ (preferably a tower unit) -24 port switch -Data cab to fit in a switch, patch panel, tower server and power strip -Patch panel (24 port) -Colour laser printer (with scanner ideal) -1 or 2 APs Obviously willing to pay and collect the equipment, so just let me know if you have anything and how much! Thanks!
featured_spectre Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I have a few 3com 2024 switches (10/100)...think we're looking for about £30 (which would include P&P)...may also be a patch panel (Cat5e)...depends on how much more we can pull out of the cabinate.
featured_spectre Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 no, they're not managed, they're a fair few years old as well. They've been replaced here with 1GB switches.
3s-gtech Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I have some old servers that are going very cheap if you can collect. A small donation will be sufficient. Various Xeon generations, dual processor, some are Netburst and some Core based. 4GB+ RAM, some tower and some rack. Some take SCSI, some take SAS/SATA. All run Server 2008 R2 or 2012 R2 fine. May be able to help with some older Netgear g WAPs, and have some HP Procurve switches going. PM if they're any help.
FN-GM Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I have a D-link unmanaged switch in Rochdale next week if you want? Its free if you collect.

MatthewL Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Depending how many people but would a RAID'd NAS not be a better option and possibly cheaper?
NB9457 Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 Yeah, most wise it isn't much more to set up a domain and there's a few things that would be useful like file synch, share management, restrictions and maybe in the future remote services
IanT Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I've got a procurve 2650-48 at home - lite layer 3 switch and a 24 port cat5e patch pancel also let me know.
Gibbo Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 (edited) Got some 24 and 48 port Netgear switches (GS724T) here if you're interested and a Dell 3100CN colour printer. Not too far away either if you have transport. Edited May 7, 2015 by Gibbo
pow Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I've got a couple of tower servers, a Dell T300 might be ideal?
